We are building the bench of climate champions in local governments – and getting them the skills and support they need to succeed, while delivering on climate and environmental justice solutions now. **We’re hiring a Program Manager to join our team! ** The **Local Leaders Program** is building a unified force of elected leaders in cities, counties, and other local governments – committed to turning their communities into climate leaders. The Program Manager will coordinate [our cohort of elected leaders](https://climatecabineteducation.org/local-leader-cohort/), planning events, researching local climate and energy governance opportunities, spearheading technical assistance, and working with partners to build the program for future years. This role requires curiosity, strong organizational and communication skills, and a track record of work on climate/energy policy. **Key Responsibilities: ** - Cohort Engagement and Event Leadership - Plan and coordinate monthly cohort meetings, including arranging speakers, preparing materials, creating meeting agendas, and overseeing logistics. - Design and conduct training webinars on climate/energy policy issues and strategies for becoming effective elected climate champions. - Lead the provision of technical assistance to the cohort, enhancing member elected officials’ capabilities and knowledge in relevant areas. - Build and maintain relationships with coalition partners, technical partners, city staff, and other key stakeholders possibly including program funders. - Research and Policy Development - Conduct policy research to support cohort members, focusing on climate policies applicable to priority cities, with a special emphasis on “public power” policies. - Collaborate with cities to advocate for, pass, and implement effective climate policies, involving policy research and liaising with regional and national staff. - Program Management and Operations - Coordinate overall management of the Local Leader Cohort, ensuring effective communication, programming, facilitation, policy support, and visibility. - Support the Program Director in developing and implementing program strategic plans, in line with Climate Cabinet’s overall goals. - Build and maintain robust systems to track progress to goals, ensure institutional knowledge, monitor interactions, and streamline program functions. This includes management of CRMs and other data systems. - Produce a quarterly newsletter, blogs, and ongoing written materials to showcase the cohort's activities and opportunities. - Coordinate with departments across the Climate Cabinet team, such as media, fundraising, and legislative teams, to support climate-focused elected officials. **Traits for success in this role:** - **Curiosity, strong research skills, and a good attitude. **This role requires diving into complex research and policy/governance questions, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and asking questions. - **Track record **of work related to climate, energy, land use, environmental justice, or resilience. Experience with local governments and city budgets is a plus. - **Collaborative team builder. **We’re looking for someone eager to bring people together, form strong relationships, plan public webinars/events, and drive towards action. - **Committed to tackling climate change with an intersectional lens. **This team member must be committed to climate solutions that advance justice, alleviate energy burden, and make life better for marginalized and frontline communities. - **Excited about **working in a small, mission-driven, fully remote work environment, and working creatively to solve complex, daunting problems. **Location**: Remote – anywhere in the U.S. Preference for: Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, North Carolina, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Virginia.
