Canvass Directors - New York City

We are currently seeking Field Directors to join us on an important and exciting campaign. We are hiring for a Lead Director and Deputy Director positions in New York City.

The Canvass Director will recruit, train, and manage a team of local canvassers to have quality, in-depth conversations with local residents about committing to fighting ageism and protecting to pedestrian safety. Directors will work within their team to build an office to collect signatures to deliver to the new mayor on day 1. All directors are expected to train staff in the field while leading by example themselves; they must also communicate long and short term goals to staff and manage campaign reporting. The Canvass Director will work in tandem with a local field organizer and manage canvassing staff and Team Leads.

We are hiring immediately to start December 1st. This position is a short-term campaign for two weeks running through December 14th Location: New York City

Management Responsibilities:

  • Work with our recruitment team to find and hire members of the community to work as petitioners and assist voters in carefully and correctly completing the petition.
  • Manage a team of 40 petitioners, setting and driving goals along the way
  • Implement safety protocol
  • Build a database of successful locations for gathering signatures from registered voters.
  • Coordinate petitioning sites for your staff, and work with partner groups to avoid overlapping efforts in the field.
  • Go out in the field yourself several days per week to collect petitions, train staff, and help drive office goals.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Work with the HR Director on payroll, onboarding and offboarding staff, and managing state compliance.
  • Monitor and train staff to stay compliant with state signature collection requirements
  • Maintain accurate inventory of office materials, petition forms and overall office organization
  • Manage the printing, storage and distribution of unique paid circulator petition forms
  • Manage staff schedule

Qualifications:

Must have

  • Leadership experience, ability to motivate, grow, and manage a large team.
  • Eagerness to lead from the front, get into the field and petition several days a week.
  • Extreme attention to detail and a proven ability to instill that quality in others.
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong passion for community organizing and fostering civic engagement.
  • Track record of building inclusive teams.
  • Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends.

Nice-to-have

  • 1-3+ years of experience running paid canvasses or other canvassing operations.
  • Management experience

Salary: The salary range for this position is $1,238 - $1,500 per week. We offer a generous benefits package, including paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and hands-on training. At the end of the campaign, there may be opportunities for advancement and bonuses.
