WHO WE ARE

ActBlue is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating cutting-edge technology that fuels Democratic victories and enables progressive causes to thrive.

Our vision is simple: building change through the power of people. Since our founding, we’ve been building innovative solutions to revolutionize grassroots fundraising – if you’ve donated to a Democratic campaign or a progressive organization online, you’ve probably used our platform! We believe in putting power in the hands of small-dollar donors by helping thousands of groups — from local candidates to national movements — mobilize their communities and create a lasting impact. Every member of our team is deeply committed to advancing our shared mission and core values. Together, we are shaping the future of democracy.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Senior Systems Administrator will lead the design, implementation, and continual improvement of ActBlue’s internal IT systems, ensuring they meet the needs of a wide variety of stakeholders and are aligned with evolving compliance, operational, and industry standards. In this role, you will champion data protection, manage access and identity infrastructure, and guide technical decisions that shape the day-to-day experience of a distributed team.

This position requires a strong technical foundation as well as the ability to align system architecture with organizational compliance needs — including SOC 2, GDPR, and CCPA. You will be responsible for identifying and reducing risk across systems, driving automation, and embedding data privacy and security into how ActBlue manages information and operations.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead complex, high-priority initiatives involving multiple internal and external stakeholders including configuration, deployment, and management of secure, cloud-based IT systems — with a focus on identity management, MDM, endpoint security, and SaaS integrations.
  • Partner with Security, Legal, and Data Governance stakeholders to ensure IT systems meet regulatory requirements and internal controls and proper security configurations.
  • Oversee the management of user identity lifecycle and access control, including implementation of RBAC, least privilege principles, and regular access audits.
  • Serve as a key partner in data governance planning, supporting technical enforcement of data classification, data retention, data loss prevention, and secure data handling procedures.
  • Create and maintain systems documentation, playbooks, and user-facing knowledge resources to support IT operations and cross-functional alignment.
  • Drive the design and deployment of IT process automation (e.g., onboarding/offboarding, software provisioning, and compliance checklists).
  • Support internal audits and evidence gathering for compliance reporting, including review of logs, change management records, and security controls.
  • Stay current on evolving regulatory, privacy, and security standards to ensure systems remain aligned with industry best practices.
  • Act as an escalation point and mentor for junior administrators, helping them grow technical and compliance-oriented expertise.
  • Drive IT project delivery in partnership with cross-functional teams, from project planning and vendor management to implementation and rollout.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 6+ years of experience in systems administration, with demonstrated leadership on compliance- and security-driven projects.
  • Deep technical expertise with tools such as Okta, JAMF, Google Workspace, Atlassian Suite (JIRA, Confluence), and modern MDM platforms.
  • Working knowledge of relevant compliance and data protection frameworks, including SOC types 1&11, NIST, PCI DSS, etc.
  • Experience with e-discovery, data governance, and data handling policies and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of identity and access management, endpoint hardening, and security configuration management.
  • Experience implementing data governance controls and helping organizations operationalize data privacy standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills — especially in technical documentation, policy writing, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • A proactive, collaborative mindset and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Commitment to equity, accessibility, and a people-first approach to systems design and support.
