Responsibilities:

Collaborate with caucus leadership and the Executive Director on the development and execution of overall ADCC communications strategy

  • Work with leadership, candidates, consultants, and staff to create and oversee paid and earned media plans for each targeted campaign
  • Work with the Executive Director to design and implement an off-year accountability program focused on generating press coverage and earned media in targeted districts
  • Proactively build and maintain relationships with statewide and local press, pitch caucus and candidate stories regularly, and prep candidates and incumbents for press appearances
  • Work with Executive Director to create and regularly distribute talking points for members and candidates as well as messaging documents to improve coordinated response to key issues
  • Work with caucus members and candidates to tailor messaging to regional needs and issues to make sure talking points are applicable across the state
  • Liaise with caucus partners and allies to ensure coordinated communication efforts on key issues
  • Maintain ADCC social media presence and oversee email program
  • Work with consultants to draft copy and design print, static, and video ads for ADCC and Candidates and assist with approvals process; collaborate with paid media vendors to identify and pitch target headlines
  • In the on-year, manage team dedicated to getting press for targeted candidates running for WI Assembly
  • On year requirements include working outside of normal work hours; including canvassing and other election-preparation as necessary
  • Additional responsibilities as required to support winning Assembly campaigns

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must be highly organized, able to multitask, prioritize, and manage multiple deadlines, and able to work in a fast-paced environment. An ideal Communications Director candidate will possess:

  • At least one cycle of paid campaign communications experience required, two cycles preferred
  • Experience speaking on the record and successfully pitching stories to a variety of press outlets
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, with an ability to write and produce content on a wide variety of issues and platforms, at times with very tight deadlines
  • An interest in and understanding of state legislative politics and the ability to think critically and strategically; seizing opportunities and anticipating obstacles
  • Proficient professional experience working with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive
  • Some graphic design experience and proficiency with Canva and Adobe Suite preferred
  • Ability to prioritize and meet competing deadlines and keep calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to manage and maintain highly confidential and sensitive information;
  • Quick problem-solving skills and solutions-oriented mindset. Must be able to take, give, and implement feedback
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment
  • Reliable access to a computer and personal transportation is required
  • Be a representative of the Assembly Democratic Campaign Committee and our policies, including neutrality as directed.

  • Working from a computer for long periods of time;
  • Flexibility to work long hours outside of normal operating hours;
  • State-wide travel is expected, must have a car and valid driver’s license. Reimbursement of mileage will be at the federal rate per mile.

Compensation:

Competitive salary between $85,000-95,000 plus benefits including medical, vision, dental, and retirement planning with up to 6% retirement employer match contribution.
