GOTV DEPUTY FIELD ORGANIZER

Position: GOTV Deputy Field Organizer

Battleground Texas is a political action committee dedicated to civic engagement and voter registration as tools to build stronger communities. We believe that regular people like us can significantly impact elections, and we’re expanding the electorate by registering voters and mobilizing Texans to engage in the civic process.

Job Description:

The primary responsibility of a GOTV Deputy Field Organizer is to organize in their communities and neighborhoods by turning out new voters. Their responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • executing voter turnout events inside and outside for several hours
  • block walking/canvassing in neighborhoods
  • management of volunteers
  • building relationships with community leaders
  • entering data into miniVAN, Mobilize & EveryAction database and ensuring data integrity

This job traditionally requires the ability to carry folding tables weighing approximately 35lbs, set up canopy tents, occasionally crowd canvass at events for several hours at a time, and participate in neighborhood canvases with an average 3-6 hours of near-constant walking. Time in this position will be split between phone banking, text banking, clipboarding at community events and canvassing door-to-door in neighborhoods to turn out registered voters.

In-person local event attendance is required. We strongly encourage all applicants to be vaccinated to protect themselves and others from COVID-19.

Essential Duties:

  • Canvass door-to-door in target neighborhoods and precincts using MiniVAN smartphone application or similar smartphone application.
  • Phone and text banking for voter turnout.
  • Check in with leadership at the beginning of canvassing shift and check out when shift is complete.
  • Provide detailed daily reports to regional leadership.
  • Meet metrics-based goals as set by organization leadership.
  • Volunteer management & recruitment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Regular local travel required.

Skills & Qualifications

  • There are no formal education requirements for this position
  • Authenticity in your commitment to organizing as a means for building power for communities of color and young people in Texas
  • Commitment to Battleground Texas’ mission and our organizational values, goals, and objectives
  • Experience growing up or working in diverse communities and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and empowerment
  • Experience using databases to track and review data
  • Experience planning, setting up, and staffing events
  • Volunteer management & recruitment
  • Access to reliable transportation and driver's license.
  • Familiarity with EveryAction, Mobilize, Google suite, and other campaign databases
  • Attention to detail when reviewing documents, organizing personal workspace, and tracking data and outcomes
  • Candidate must have a desire to learn and a willingness to receive feedback
  • Candidates must be self-motivated and have strong interpersonal skills, experience meeting deadlines and the ability to manage many tasks simultaneously
  • Ideal candidate is a registered Texas voter

You’re a great fit if, in addition to the above, you:

  • Have previous experience canvassing or knocking on doors
  • Campaign experience is a plus
  • Love to meet and exceed personal goals you set for yourself
  • Use checklists in your personal life and/or enjoy color coding
  • Have a preferred, tried and true method for organizing large stacks of paper or literature
  • Can communicate with voters in multiple languages
  • Have spent many years in the community you’re applying to work in

Compensation: All Deputy Field Organizers will be paid $22/Hour

Time Commitment: Due to the nature of the role, the ability to work evenings and weekends is required. This position will end on November 8, 2024.

Travel: Regular local travel to regional community events, neighborhoods and BGTX offices and launch locations will be required.
