Summary:

The Organizing and Training Director will lead, coordinate, and collaborate to implement CADEM’s organizing goals and campaign efforts. The ideal candidate will be a strong and experienced person and project manager who can lead a dynamic team of staff, consultants, and organizers, including through the high-pressure and fast-paced environment of the election cycle. The ideal candidate is also an innovative and creative strategic thinker that has the skills and experience to build and execute the strategy successfully, and in collaboration with key partners and stakeholders. The Organizing Director plays a key role within CADEM’s senior leadership team and will work alongside CADEM leadership and the senior team to ensure all organizing and electoral goals are met.

Essential Job Functions (including, but not limited to):

  • Oversee, develop and manage CADEM’s Forever Organizing Program, and other organizing and training programs.
  • Lead, collaborate with and manage a dynamic team of staff, consultants, partners and volunteers.
  • Support and collaborate with key partners, stakeholders and consultants to ensure the Coordinated Campaigns and other 2026 political goals are carried out successfully.
  • Build and implement a comprehensive field and training program to grow and engage CADEM’s activist base, in partnership with key stakeholders, specifically for each election cycle and long-term throughout the year.
  • Participate in regular planning processes with CADEM leadership, including setting annual goals and creating a strategic plan to execute them successfully.
  • Hire, train, develop and manage field staff – both for long-term organizing work and for campaigns as needed.
  • Lead CADEM’s district-specific and statewide voter contact programs for electoral campaigns, in conjunction with key Democratic entities and with Central Committees, clubs and other allied organizations and activist groups.
  • Collaborate with other CADEM departments on training, communications, fundraising to help broaden and strengthen CADEM’s overall work.
  • Cultivate relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and organizations.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Strong commitment to the values and mission of the California Democratic Party.
  • Experience in a principal or senior leadership role that strengthened strategic planning, project management, and interpersonal communication and managerial skills, as well as the ability to handle sensitive and complex dynamics within a fast-paced environment.
  • At least 5-7 years of management experience, with a preference for management experience within the political, policy, public affairs and/or other relevant fields, and strong interpersonal and leadership skills to ensure successful partnerships and collaborations with key partners and stakeholders.
  • At least 2-4 years of relevant organizing experience, with a preference for organizing experience within the political, policy, public affairs and/or other relevant fields.
  • Strong organizing, political and/or project management experience, including the ability to oversee and execute field campaigns, recruit and manage volunteers, and handle dynamic and complex challenges as they arise with sound judgment and professionalism.
  • Positive attitude and the ability to motivate and inspire those around you, and the drive to be creative, innovative and proactive.
  • Working understanding of California’s diverse population and electorate across the state’s many distinct communities, and the skills and experience necessary to organize within various communities effectively.
  • Experience working collaboratively with elected officials, candidates, community groups, advocates and/or allied organizations.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and responsibilities.
  • Sound judgment and ability to problem-solve amidst complex, sensitive and dynamic issues and stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of California’s political, electoral and legislative processes.
  • High level of personal and professional integrity, and the drive to contribute positively to the team and work environment.
