About the Los Angeles County Democratic Party
The Los Angeles County Democratic Party is the official governing body of the Democratic Party in Los Angeles County and works in coordination with the California Democratic Party and the Democratic National Committee. LACDP is the largest local Democratic Party organization in the United States, representing more than 3.1 million registered Democrats.
Endorsements issued by LACDP in local and municipal races become the official endorsements of the California Democratic Party. The Party plays a central role in electing Democrats, advancing Democratic values, and organizing communities across Los Angeles County.
Position Overview
The Communications & Office Coordinator is a core staff position responsible for executing the Party’s communications, supporting day-to-day office coordination, and ensuring the Los Angeles County Democratic Party maintains a disciplined, visible, and effective presence across the county.
This role is designed for a political professional who can independently manage communications, exercise sound judgment, and work collaboratively with leadership in a fast-paced, partisan environment. The position includes staffing the Chair at events and translating Party activity into timely, compelling political content.
Key Responsibilities
Communications, Media & Digital
- Draft, edit, schedule, and distribute Party communications, including email updates, newsletters, website content, social media posts, and public announcements
- Maintain consistent message discipline aligned with Democratic priorities and electoral goals
- Draft talking points, scripts, and briefing materials for Party leadership as directed
- Build and maintain working relationships with members of the press and political media
- Assist with press outreach, media advisories, and responses to media inquiries
- Manage the Party’s social media platforms using professional tools for content development, scheduling, and performance tracking
Leadership Event Staffing & Content Capture
- Staff the Chair and Executive Director at community, political, and Party events as assigned
- Provide on-site support to ensure leadership is prepared and supported
- Capture photos, short videos, and real-time content for use across Party communications
- When not present at events, ensure streamlined systems are in place to receive and post timely photos and video from leadership, event hosts, or partners
Office Coordination & Team Support
- Serve as a point of contact for incoming inquiries from members, clubs, elected offices, vendors, and partners
- Monitor shared inboxes and route requests appropriately while tracking follow-up
- Maintain shared calendars, deadlines, and communications-related documentation
- Support communications and logistics for meetings, events, trainings, and fundraisers
- Work closely with the Executive Director and Operations Director to support organizational priorities, especially during high-volume periods such as endorsement cycles and election season.
- Project manage day-to-day internship and fellowship program
Minimum Qualifications
- Preferably two years of professional experience in political communications, campaigns, party organizations, advocacy organizations, or related Democratic political work
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively
- Demonstrated experience using social media tools for content creation, scheduling, and performance tracking
- Experience working with members of the press or political media
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities under deadline
- Commitment to Democratic values and the mission of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Democratic Party organizations or Democratic campaigns
- Existing relationships with local, regional, or statewide political reporters
- Familiarity with Democratic clubs, grassroots organizing, or endorsement processes
- Experience staffing senior political leadership or elected officials
Education
Bachelor’s degree in political science, communications, journalism, or a related field preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
- Valid California Class C Driver’s License or reliable alternative transportation
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
