Summary

American Progress has two immediate openings for Campaigns Associates to join the Center for American Progress Action Fund’s Campaigns team. CAP Action is an independent, nonpartisan education and advocacy organization dedicated to its mission to improve the lives of all Americans through bold, progressive ideas, as well as strong leadership and concerted action with the aim of not only changing the conversation, but changing the country. With deep partnerships in Washington, D.C., and across the country, CAP Action arms state and national allies with the tools necessary to build support for progressive policies.

This role will primarily support and grow CAP Action’s Storytelling Program. Storytelling is one of the most effective strategies for shaping public opinion on policy and leadership. CAP Action’s Campaigns team is advancing this work strategically and effectively: In recent years, its expanding network of messengers has reached more than 149.8 million people in traditional and organic new media alone.

The team is currently focused on elevating personal stories that highlight the real-world impact of policy decisions made by Republicans in Congress. The Campaigns Associate will identify and interview individuals across the country, maintain meaningful relationships, and connect storytellers with opportunities to share their experiences across a range of platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Source, interview, and vet storytellers on policy issues.
  • Complete partner and press requests for storytellers.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with storytellers.
  • Track outreach, notes, communication, and metrics related to storytellers.
  • Build relationships with partner organizations nationally and in key states.
  • Provide administrative and substantive support to the Campaigns team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • At least three years of relevant professional experience, which may include internships and education, in campaigns, journalism, organizing, new media, advocacy, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of the U.S. political landscape, especially at the Senate and congressional level.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • An interest in media, including digital and traditional platforms, and an ability to pick up on what’s resonating.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, and confidence in building and maintaining trusting relationships nationwide.
  • A journalistic mind that thinks of creative ways to source and elevate real people.
  • Positive and collaborative attitude toward work.
  • Ability to work well with external partners and as a part of a team and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn new policy issues quickly.
  • Passion for advocacy and storytelling and interest in journalism, organizing, or new media.
  • Commitment to the organization’s mission and goals.
