About Climate Power
Climate Power is a strategic communications organization focused on winning the politics of climate. We’re educating Americans about our climate progress, highlighting how clean energy investments benefit local communities, and holding Big Oil accountable for polluting our air and water. We use data-backed messages to pave a path for bold action and shine a light on the cost of ignoring the climate crisis on our health, economy, and future generations.
It’s our job to tell the story of how climate action and clean energy investment are rebuilding our economy, lowering energy costs, and protecting our planet for future generations. We call out disinformation from bad actors like the Big Oil lobby, and make the climate stakes real for voters.
About This Role
Climate Power has an immediate opening for a Michigan State Director to manage our program in Michigan — a core state for Climate Power. This role will use strategic communications and earned media to drive a narrative around the importance of climate and clean energy investments, sell the benefits of climate action in key communities, and block efforts to dismantle climate progress. This role will manage consultants, relationships with in-state partners, relationships with other departments, and programs and projects.

- Direct Climate Power strategic communications and earned media activities in-state, and manage in-state consultant(s).
- Distribute resources with relevant partners and talkers, including message guidance and polling, and coordinate partners doing climate progress defense and accountability work.
- Identify storytellers, manage in-state events on clean energy, and support partners' events.
- Serve as the main point of contact for elected officials and partners in state and manage relationships with partner organizations, working with them to amplify aligned work and provide resources.
- Work across Climate Power departments and campaigns to ensure resources and messaging are deployed with state needs in mind.
- Attend in-person events and meetings as needed.
- Help identify needs for additional resources/activities to report back to funders.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned as need and capacity dictate.
Essential Qualifications
- 7 years of relevant professional experience in press, campaign management, or project management in an electoral, nonprofit, or issue advocacy setting.
- 3 years of people and/or project management experience; demonstrated success in leading departments and diverse teams and managing complex projects.
- Residence in Michigan.
- Emotional intelligence, empathy, and willingness to assume good intentions and faith in others.
- Superb problem-solving skills, good judgment in navigating issues and making decisions, and a willingness to take initiative and find solutions.
- Collaborative leader and team player with excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Sense of humor a plus!

If you do not meet all of the requirements and believe you are a good fit, we encourage you to apply but be sure to uplift all experience that aligns with both our essential and desired qualifications.
