About the Role:

Courier Newsroom is looking for a part-time Freelance Political Editor to edit 6-12 articles, videos, and other multi-media content each day. The Freelancer will report into and receive assignments as directed by the VP of Political Content, States, and Deputy of Political Content, States.

The Freelancer needs to be available to work 12 hours per week (Monday-Thursday, 1-4pm EST). Initial contract is for two months, with potential for extension.

Scope of Work

  • Edit written stories and work with reporters to finalize copy as directed by the VP of Political Content
  • Edit video scripts and review finished video cuts as directed by the VP
  • Review and edit carousels to ensure social optimization as directed by company
  • Ensure that content is accurate, fair, and adheres to journalistic ethics.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5-8 years experience in political journalism, editorial leadership, or a related role in media and/or politics.
  • Strong editorial skills with the ability to support the development and refinement of content strategies.
  • Experience in multimedia/video journalism.
  • Passion for local journalism, civic engagement, and amplifying underrepresented voices.
  • Experience with digital content management systems and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of industry trends, audience behaviors, and best practices in political journalism and content distribution.

Compensation and benefits

$50/hour for 12 hours per week
