Crooked Media is looking for an LA-based Producer on the Programming department reporting to our Senior Producer to work on our flagship show, Pod Save America. The ideal candidate is an established news producer or news editor with a sharp political sensibility, knowledge of the workings of campaigns and government, and a collaborative approach to work. The candidate must have a clear idea of the Crooked brand, exceptional skills in talent management, an ability to work under deadline pressure and basic audio and video production skills.
This role is based out of our Los Angeles office, and follows a hybrid schedule based on the job's needs. We are ideally looking for Los Angeles-based candidates, or candidates willing to relocate before their start date.
How You’ll Spend Your Time:
Programming Production
- Monitoring political news and newsmakers
- Pitching, booking, and scheduling guests and co-hosts
- Writing prep documents for interviews, including rigorous research and informed and focused questions
- Looking ahead to help the show and organization get ahead of major news events
- Working alongside Executive Editor and Senior Producer to write and fact-check scripts
- Working with hosts and show leadership to identify and edit audio and video assets for each episode
- Quality control over final show prior to release
- Working with Sales to track and record ad reads on a timely basis
- Collaborating with our studio managers to book studio time based on needed locations
- Sitting in on recordings to log topics and edits and to help identify social clips
Content Strategy Development & Promotion
- Contribute to cross-departmental efforts to build, and publicize our programming through video, social, design and marketing efforts
- Identify opportunities to share and promote Pod Save America content across subscription, daily news and marketing channels
- Work with other departments to better understand audience trends and adjust priorities accordingly
- Participate in live events and other experiential events to drive fan engagement.
What You’ll Bring To The Table:
- 5+ years of news, radio, podcast, or TV production experience
- Strong communication and organization skills
- Strong editorial judgment about the news that matters
- Ability to juggle multiple projects at once and willing to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news
- Understanding of journalism and journalistic ethics
- A passion for and day-to-day interest in politics
- A curious and collaborative approach
- A self-motivated, proactive, scrappy, creative, accountable and kind attitude
- Proficiency with ProTools, Adobe Audition, Descript, or other audio editing software
- We’d love to see a familiarity Premiere and Frame.io, or a willingness to learn
Pay and Perks:
This position is covered under the Writers Guild of America East Collective Bargaining Agreement and the salary for this role is $100,000.
