The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is the official national Democratic campaign committee charged with electing Democrats to the U. S. House of Representatives. The DCCC recruits Democratic candidates and supports Democratic campaigns – both challengers and Democratic incumbent Members – with a variety of services including field operations, fundraising support, communications assistance, digital strategy, research support and management consulting. The DCCC is supported by the contributions of individuals and organizations, along with Democratic Members, from throughout the country. Due to the cyclic nature of our organization, all positions are subject to separation at the end of the election cycle.
Position Summary: The Member Engagement Director is responsible for advising and executing the DCCC Chair’s goals for engaging the Members of the House Democratic Caucus in the work of recapturing the House majority. The Member Engagement Director will work across the organization to implement a program to engage Members, as well as senior-level Hill staff. They will also be the point person tasked with providing political support and guidance to Members or candidates who are running in seats that are outside of our core swing-seat battlefield.
The ideal candidate will be self-starting, strategic, have strong political and campaign finance acumen, and be passionate about Democratic campaigns. This is not a traditional 9-5 role. Evening and weekend work and communication will be expected from time to time.
Responsibilities:
- Represent DCCC and serve as liaison to assigned Democratic Members of Congress, Chiefs of Staff, and Members’ campaign staff, on behalf of the Committee and its departments
- Identify, build, strengthen and manage key strategic relationships and communicate regularly to Members of Congress and staff about DCCC activities/programs, including campaigns, redistricting, mobilization of voters, messaging, and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts
- Work with Chair Pod to regularly communicate with COS and Member campaign staff and update them on DCCC news, programing and events
- Plan and help execute, in close communication with the Chief of Staff, Policy Director, National Political Director, Member Dues, and Engagement teams, as well as any other relevant DCCC departments, a program of consistent engagement
- Help manage engagement with DCCC Member Leadership, including maintaining regular touch points and management of portfolios
- Work closely with the Member Dues team to encourage and facilitate Member fundraising and dues paying
- Represent DCCC (and be prepared to present at times) at Member and various caucuses and stakeholder events, as assigned, and report back internally after these events on key takeaways
- Work closely with Campaigns and Organizing departments, as well as outside groups, to lead and manage the Launchpad program to facilitate Hill and partner group staff volunteer opportunities and distributed volunteer organizing efforts on campaigns
- Serve as an active participant in the internal DCCC surrogate working group
- Serve as internal thought leader and provide Members’ perspective on internal decision making and planning
- Respond to and track Member and Chiefs of Staff inquiries
- Maintain the timeliness and integrity of our contact lists by ensuring all updates flow into our CMS
- Maintain awareness and be prepared to provide assessments of races and candidates for Members, staff, supporters and stakeholders
- Advise and communicate with Members or Members-Elect – not on the core swing-seat battlefield – as assigned or requested, on individual campaign and political goals, tactics, fundraising and plans
- Other duties as needed.
- Commitment to the election of Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives;
- At least 3 cycles (6 years) of experience working with Members of Congress and staff, as well as experience working on campaigns and/or advocacy work with an understanding of legislative, campaign and political processes;
- Experience on both the Hill and on campaigns is preferred but not required;
- Proficiency with Microsoft office, especially Excel and G-Suite preferred. Experience with relationship management software is preferred but not required;
- Communicates effectively, focusing on how departmental contributions relate to DCCC’s overall objectives;
- Encourages collaboration within the team and with different departments. Experience coordinating work across multiple departments and also managing projects in an independent fashion;
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities with poise, tact and diplomacy abilities across all levels of an organization and experience;
