Distributed Organizing Director

Democratic National Committee

Democratic National Committee

Washington, DC, USA
USD 108k-108k / year
Posted on May 16, 2025
The Democratic Party is organizing for more than Election Day — we’re organizing for the long haul. We're looking for a Distributed Organizing Director who is ready to build a program rooted in people, powered by digital innovation, and committed to year-round engagement.
This role is responsible for leading our national distributed organizing program and integrating our digital organizing strategy into every part of how we organize — online and offline – through our supporters and volunteers. You will support and manage a team in building volunteer leadership across the country, to engage voters around Democratic elections and values. The ideal candidate brings both a strategic lens and a community mindset: someone who can architect scalable systems and build deep trust with volunteers and organizers. This role will help shape the next generation of organizing and ensure our infrastructure reflects the values, diversity, and urgency of the Democratic Party.

Strategy & Program Design:

  • Lead a year-round distributed organizing strategy that recruits, trains, and supports volunteer leaders to take ongoing action in their communities — before, during, and after election cycles.
  • Integrate digital organizing strategies — including SMS, email, web, social media, online communities, and influencer outreach — as core components of our organizing strategy, not separate efforts.
  • Develop organizing ladders of engagement and leadership pipelines to move volunteers from one-time action takers to volunteer leaders.
  • Use organizing as a tool for both electoral wins and long-term accountability, helping volunteers stay engaged and activated between elections.
  • Set clear program goals, metrics, and systems for accountability, and regularly report on progress with DNC leadership.

Team & Volunteer Management

  • Manage a team of distributed organizers, providing strategic direction and day-to-day support rooted in coaching.
  • Develop and oversee national volunteer training programs, onboarding systems, and ongoing engagement with an emphasis on leadership development.
  • Build a culture of continuous learning, equity, and reflection within the organizing team and broader program.

Tools & Technology

  • Oversee the use and integration of organizing tools — with a focus on usability, adaptability, and volunteer experience.
  • Collaborate with Tech & Data teams to ensure tools support feedback loops from volunteer and voter interactions, surface qualitative insights, and empower organizers to act quickly and effectively.
  • Establish clear standards and goals for tracking progress and reporting.

Cross-Team Coordination

  • Work cross-functionally with digital, communications, and political teams to align messaging, program priorities, and tactics.
  • Work with state parties, and grassroots groups, to coordinate efforts, avoid duplication, and maximize organizing and mobilization impact.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of organizing experience on campaigns or at a progressive organization.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing large-scale distributed programs and volunteer teams.
  • Management experience with demonstrated ability to develop, train, and support employees.
  • Experience building structures and systems to recruit, train, and support volunteer leaders at scale.
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing distributed organizing models tied to clear and measurable goals.
  • Fundamental understanding of how to leverage social media and digital channels as organizing tools for organizers and volunteers.
  • Strong understanding of how to utilize various tools to support a distributed program, including volunteer and voter CRMs, outreach tools such as Scale to Win, and email CRMs such as ActionKit.
The starting salary for the Distributed Organizing Director position is $108,000, on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt position, that may require work on weekends.
