The New York City Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (NYC-DSA) is seeking an Administration and Communications Coordinator to support and manage the administrative responsibilities of the organization. This position is an ongoing full-time position. The Administration and Communications Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the chapter email inbox, coordinating with other political and community organizations, chairing the communications committee supporting the production of several newsletters, creating communications strategies and toolkits, managing and supporting the chapter’s social media and email communications, and administrating the day-to-day activity of the chapter. They coordinate members, leaders, resources to meet annual objectives, multi-year fundraising goals, and implement the democratic decisions of our members. Additionally, they support the chapter through office management, list management, producing graphics, and writing copy. This is a 2-year coordinator position, extension is contingent on chapter fundraising.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Communications
- Support and co-chair the volunteer communications committee with the Steering Committee communications coordinator and assist in producing content for DSATV, RPM, the Thorn, the Local, and other written newsletters.
- Hold periodic training sessions on communications and media.
- Assist the communications committee in creating and implementing communications plans, strategy guides, and messaging toolkits.
- Periodically analyze comms analytics and present insights to chapter leadership bodies to systemize and improve upon chapter comms strategies.
- Maintain communications infrastructure: IG, X, Tiktok, Twitch, and Linktree.
- Draft and send press releases and emails via Action Network and Mailchimp.
- Maintain press list
- Supporting co-chairs in speaking to the press, including pitching to reporters
- Maintain and categorize photo archives.
- Manage chapter website via Wordpress.
- Chapter meetings and democracy
- Attend all Steering Committee meetings (one night a week in the evening, alternating remote and in person) and all Citywide Leadership Committee meetings (in person, every four to eight weeks for four hours on a Saturday).
- Manage the administration of our biannual chapter convention.
- Learn and manage all voting tools: DSA Voting tool, Opavote, and Loomio.
- Learn to set up and manage hybrid tech tools for meetings.
- Office management (for either the Manhattan office at 14 Jefferson Street, or a potential new Brooklyn office)
- Office maintenance, security, and chairing the office committee.
- Communicate with and pay the landlord.
- Manage the Steering Committee email inbox, respond to and triage emails.
- Maintain relationships and schedule meetings with other organizations including unions, leftist organizations, and parties.
- Manage member lists for the chapter and branches in Action Network.
Qualifications
- Experience managing meetings, emails, and office logistics.
- Ability to learn and manage voting tools and hybrid meeting setups.
- Experience coordinating with external organizations and managing member lists.
- Strong communication skills with experience in developing comms strategies, managing social media, and writing newsletters.
- Ability to chair committees and provide training in communications.
- Familiarity with Canva or graphic design software for creating simple graphics.
- Experience using Action Network.
Preferred
- Design simple graphics through Canva or other graphic design software for social media

Work Schedule: Full-Time, non-exempt
Location: In-person in NYC with some hybrid meetings and remote work.
