Job description
Voter Protection Director Florida Democratic Party – 2026 Coordinated Campaign Location: Florida (Statewide) Salary Range: $7,000-8,500/month Reports To: Coordinated Campaign Director Role Overview The Florida Democratic Party is seeking a Voter Protection Director (VPD) to serve as the campaign’s lead counsel on election administration and the architect of our statewide voter protection volunteer network. We are looking for a unique candidate: an attorney with the ethos of an organizer. You do not need prior professional organizing experience, but you must possess a genuine excitement for building teams, recruiting volunteers, and training a statewide network of advocates. You will be the primary offensive line for Florida Democrats, using your legal expertise to interpret complex election laws while personally building the volunteer infrastructure to enforce them. Core Responsibilities 1. Volunteer Network Building • Recruitment & Training: Directly recruit, train, and manage a statewide network of volunteer attorneys, law students, and community members. You will be the face of the program, hosting trainings and keeping volunteers engaged throughout the cycle. • Poll Watcher Credentialing: Manage the strict legal credentialing process for all poll watchers, ensuring volunteers are properly registered with their respective Supervisor of Elections by statutory deadlines to avoid rejection. • Boiler Room Leadership: Direct the strategic operations of the Election Day "Boiler Room," serving as the central hub for troubleshooting issues reported by your volunteer network in the field. 2. Legal Counsel & Compliance • Voter Registration Guidance: Serve as the campaign’s expert on Florida’s Third-Party Voter Registration Organization (3PVRO) laws and other laws related to voter registration efforts. You will provide clear legal guidance to the organizing team to ensure all registration drives are compliant and risk-free. • Legislative Tracking & Testimony: Track state voting legislation during the legislative session and prepare legal analyses or testimony to advocate against voter suppression measures. • Statutory Interpretation: Monitor changes in election law and issue immediate, actionable guidance to campaign leadership and staff regarding new rules or deadlines. 3. Election Administration & Strategic Partnerships • Supervisor of Elections Liaison: Build and sustain professional relationships with County Supervisors of Elections to advocate for expansive interpretations of voting rules. • County Liaisons: Recruit and manage volunteer leaders in targeted counties who will attend local Supervisor of Elections meetings and report back on administration changes or polling place adjustments. • National Collaboration: Serve as the state point-of-contact for the DNC and national voter protection teams to leverage national resources, tools, and legal support to move the voter protection agenda forward. • Voter Access Advocacy: Identify systemic barriers to voting (such as polling place moves or ballot cure issues) and utilize your legal credentials to resolve them directly with local officials before they become crises. Qualifications • Juris Doctorate and active membership in the Florida Bar preferred • Excitement for Organizing: A demonstrated interest in people-focused work. You must be eager to pick up the phone, recruit volunteers, and build a community. While prior professional organizing experience is not required, a willingness to learn is essential. • Attention to Detail: Ability to manage complex logistics such as credentialing paperwork, volunteer shifts, and legal deadlines with precision. • Communication Skills: Ability to translate complex legal statutes into clear, motivating language for volunteers and non-legal staff. Preferred: • Knowledge of Florida’s specific election laws and 3PVRO statutes. • Fluency with voter file software (VAN) and voter protection software (LBJ). Spanish and/or Haitian Creole language skills are a strong plus. Compensation & Logistics Benefits: Full benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance. Cycle Duration: This position is through the 2026 cycle, with the possibility of extending beyond. Travel: Requires in-state travel to build relationships with county officials and train volunteers in person. To Apply To apply, please submit a resume and cover letter to [email protected]. Applications are due by March 6th.
