The International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) is seeking a Audit Manager to work in the union’s Internal Audit Department.

Position Description
Under the general supervision of the Director, Internal Audit Department, the Audit Manager performs necessary audits and reviews to provide proper internal control for the safeguard of the assets of the International Union and related entities. The Audit Manager is responsible for performing his/her duties in an independent and confidential manner.
The position is based in Washington, DC. Candidates must be available to work in-person full-time at DC headquarters.
This position’s day-to-day work will include the activities below:
- Assist the Director in the design and implementation of internal audit programs for all aspects of the International and its related entities.
- Plan and conduct risk-based audits and investigate fraud, waste, and abuse allegations.
- Clearly communicate results of audits and investigations orally and in writing.
- Develop new audit programs, often for areas that have not be audited before, and prepare audit work papers to ensure fieldwork meets the audit objectives and supports the conclusions.
- Supervises and leads internal audits to assess the effectiveness of controls, accuracy of financial records, efficiency of operations and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Works closely with internal clients at all levels in developing audit findings and recommendations regarding business process optimization, internal control, and compliance.
- Reviews work papers and performs complex testing procedures, audit risk and control assessment.
- Keeps abreast of internal control audit trends to ensure audit processes remain effective.
- Assist the Director with the organization risk assessment process.
Experience and Qualifications
Successful applicants will have the experience and qualifications listed below:
- Bachelor of Science degree in accounting required.
- US Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) required.
- At least five years with a public accounting audit firm at an advanced senior level.
- Experience with internal control assessments is required.
- Strong knowledge of accepted accounting principles, auditing standards, procedures and techniques required
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP guidelines.
- Strong background and experience with audit methodologies and techniques.
- Prior success conducting external or internal audits.
- Demonstrated strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
- Ability to build relationships while asking tough questions.
- Excellent written and oral communication ability.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $130,000.00. The IBT offers a robust benefits package including a 100% employer-paid health and welfare plan, vacation and sick leave, pension, FICA reimbursement, and 401(k) option.
The Teamsters headquarters building offers all employees access to a subsidized cafeteria, two onsite gyms, and protected bike parking. The building is only a 10-minute walk from Union Station in Washington, DC. Personal vehicle parking is not provided but paid garages are nearby.
