The International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) is seeking a Travel Accountant to work in the union’s Accounting and Budget Department.

Position Description

Under the general supervision of the Director of Accounting, or designee, the Travel Accountant performs a variety of accounting tasks necessary to ensure completeness, internal accuracy, and conformance with uniform accounting classifications or requirements of financial reports, schedules and statements.

The position is based in Washington, DC. Candidates must be available to work in-person, full-time at DC headquarters.

This position’s day-to-day work will include the activities below:

Audits, reconciles, codes travel related invoices/vouchers.

Prepares for payment, individual employee expense reports submitted to the IBT and processes
vendor payments related to IBT employees.

Prepares journal entries, as assigned.

Reconciles travel related general ledger accounts on a monthly/quarterly basis.

Audits and reconciles staff expense reports and invoices, as assigned.

Adheres to all department and organizational policies and procedures.

Performs all other duties and responsibilities as related to the position or assigned by the Director of
Accounting or designee.

Requires understanding of new LM2 schedule definitions for coding of expense reports.

Adhere to the legal and ethical standards applicable to assigned duties and responsibilities as set forth
in applicable law, IBT policies and the IBT Code of Conduct.

Experience and Qualifications

Knowledge of computerized accounting system desirable.

One to three years’ experience in an accounting environment preferred.

Ability to operate standard office equipment including personal computer, and calculator.

Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software required.

Must have mental capacity to successfully manage several assignments simultaneously.

Strong analytical skills with ability to think in logical progression.

Demonstrated initiative to perform as a “self-starter.”

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Ability to sit for extended periods of time.


Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $58,917.00 to $62,533.00. The IBT offers a robust benefits package including a 100% employer-paid health and welfare plan, vacation and sick leave, pension, FICA reimbursement, and 401(k) option.

The Teamsters headquarters building offers all employees access to a subsidized cafeteria, two onsite gyms, and protected bike parking. The building is only a 10-minute walk from Union Station in Washington, DC. Personal vehicle parking is not provided but paid garages are nearby.
