Job Description

Lisa Blunt Rochester for Senate is seeking an experienced Press Secretary. Lisa Blunt Rochester is seen as a rising star in the Democratic party and is Co-Chair of the Biden-Harris Campaign. She has served four terms as Delaware’s At-Large Congresswoman. If elected, Blunt Rochester would be the state’s first female and first Black U.S. Senator.
As the Press Secretary, you will work with the Communications Director to implement an earned media plan, build and utilize relationships with local and national press, and work aggressively to manage the candidate’s image in the press. This position is based in Wilmington and reports directly to the Communications Director.

Responsibilities:
● Work closely with the Communications Director to develop and execute an earned media and communications strategy that supports the campaign’s overall goals.
● Build and maintain relationships with members of the local and national press, pitching stories, responding to inquiries, and arranging interviews.
● Assist with writing and editing communications materials, including press releases, statements, op-eds, speeches, talking points, and other campaign material.
● Monitor breaking news and identify opportunities to accomplish LBR for Senate’s message goals.
● Assist with planning and executing campaign events, including press conferences, town halls, and other media availabilities.
● Help prepare the candidate and campaign representatives for media interviews, debates, and public appearances, including conducting media training sessions.
● Other duties as assigned to support the department and LBR for Senate's mission.

Qualifications:
● Previous experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or related fields, preferably within a political campaign or advocacy organization.
● Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and persuasive messaging across different communication channels.
● Strong media relations skills, with a track record of building relationships with journalists, securing media coverage, and managing media inquiries.
● Familiarity with digital communications platforms, including social media and analytics tools.
● Political acumen and understanding of the campaign landscape, with the ability to develop strategic messaging that resonates with diverse audiences.
● Knowledge of current media trends, news cycles, and best practices in media engagement and storytelling.
● Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced campaign environment.
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
● Detail-oriented mindset and strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
● Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed.
● Commitment to progressive values, social justice, and the campaign's mission.

Compensation: $5-6k/month depending on experience, $50/month cell phone reimbursement, subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance
