Job Description

The Mecklenburg County Democratic Party (“MCDP”) is seeking a full-time Organizing Director to help develop and execute our organizing plans for the 2024 election and beyond. Mecklenburg is home to one of the highest concentrations of Democrats in North Carolina but has recently seen some of the lowest voter turnout rates in the state. MCDP is looking for an Organizing Director to help us reverse that trend. This is a full-time, permanent position.
This position reports directly to the Executive Director and works in close collaboration with MCDP’s elected officers (the “Board”) in executing their duties and supporting the day-to-day operations of the Party. Duties also include, but are not limited to:

- Planning and executing the Party’s organizing strategy, including get-out-the vote programs, campaign events, voter targeting, etc.
- Building and supervising a team of field organizers.
- Facilitating and overseeing the Party’s canvassing and phonebanking efforts.
- Supporting our team of volunteer area coordinators by coordinating event logistics, developing volunteer relationships, and engaging in community outreach.
- Community engagement to recruit volunteers and turn out voters.
- In partnership with party leadership and key volunteers, developing and executing a robust calendar of events to help recruit, energize, and retain active volunteers.
- Collaborating with the State Party and Coordinated Campaign to ensure Mecklenburg turns out voter populations that sway statewide outcomes.
- Developing and maintaining key relationships with volunteers, donors, community groups, elected officials, and candidates.
- Analyzing incoming data and adjusting strategies as needed.
- Create and maintain data and management systems to track organizing progress across the county.
- Providing recommendations on improvements across the organization.
- Representing MCDP in key meetings and events; serving as a senior point of contact for partners and stakeholders; and acting as a spokesperson for MCDP when needed.
- Attending meetings of the Board, County Executive Committee, and other committees as needed to inform and advise.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

### Who are you?
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2+ cycles of organizing or other political experience. Previous experience as a manager is preferred. A familiarity with the Mecklenburg and North Carolina political landscape is preferred.

**Qualifications - **In addition to the skills necessary to perform the above activities, the following skills are also required:
- Experience managing staff and volunteers.
- Experience managing canvassing and other field operations.
- Strong project management, strategy, and managerial skills.
- Experience using VoteBuilder.
- Experience managing relationships with principal candidates and elected officials.
- Ability to read and translate polling data.
- Preferred experience working on voter outreach projects via phone and virtually.
- Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work in a highly independent environment and juggle multiple ongoing projects, responsibilities, and relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and able to adapt quickly to meet project needs.
- Strong competency with all digital platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to handle multiple projects at once, work well under deadlines.
- Willingness to work long hours and weekends when necessary, especially close to Election Day.
- Two or more cycles in a paid role as staff for an electoral or issue advocacy campaign is preferred.

### Job Details
Applicants must live in or around Mecklenburg County or agree to move to the area upon hiring. Preference given to applicants who can work in office. Applicants must have the ability to travel to events and meetings in the Mecklenburg area and must have a valid driver's license.

### About MCDP
MCDP (home to Charlotte) is at an historic inflection point. With more registered Democrats than any other county in North Carolina (322,000, plus 302,000 Independents), Mecklenburg County also has experienced one of the worst turnout rates in the state (93rd out of 100 counties). Tens of thousands of votes are being left on the table here in Mecklenburg County. It’s our job to boost turnout and propel statewide candidates to victory. Mecklenburg is the county that will decide the next statewide election.

When we succeed, the results will be big. In 2016, Roy Cooper (D) won the governorship by 10,300 votes. In 2020, Chief Justice Cheri Beasley lost her election by only 401 votes of the nearly 5.4 million ballots cast – two votes/precinct in Mecklenburg. Biden lost NC in 2020 by 75,000 votes.

You’ll work with a fresh and dynamic team, one that is open to big ideas, and new ways of thinking. MCDP is excited to empower its staff to innovate and to try new things.
