JOB DESCRIPTION
As the first Deputy Executive Director at GYJC, you will work closely with the Executive Director to lead and implement organizational strategy in service to GYJC’s mission and the young people of Georgia. The ideal candidate for Deputy Executive Director is a people person who is highly motivated to build a powerful multiracial base that wins changes for young Georgians. They are a systems creator, a strong manager, an experienced base-builder, and an effective project manager. As a senior leader in a young organization, they’ll be expected to create and sustain foundational infrastructure, engage regularly in direct voter contact, and help build an inclusive, equitable, and results-oriented culture.
Responsibilities
● Run a statewide organizing program focused on educating, engaging, and turning out young Georgians, holding staff accountable to key metrics and goals.
● Manage part-time team leads and provide bi-weekly 1:1 coaching and mentoring to support their development as managers and organizers.
● Manage direct voter contact and mobilization platforms and maintain clean databases for organizing tools like EveryAction, VAN, Mobilize, and Scale to Win.
● Monitor and provide detailed, regular reporting of organizational activities and program goals, ensuring the teams’ work is aligned with organizational goals.
● Assist in the coordination across teams through meetings & communication.
● Ensure the Executive Director is up-to-date on internal team functions and needs and escalate personnel or programmatic issues as they arise.
● Partners with the Executive Director and Team Leads to develop and implement new systems and train staff on core competencies to meet organizational goals.
● Work with the Executive Director to develop relationships with key partners.
● Fosters and maintains a positive, productive team culture.
● Represent the organization at events and conferences as necessary.
Qualifications
● Have 3+ cycles of full-time paid campaign experience or three years of full-time non-profit experience with at least one cycle or one year of management experience
● Have an entrepreneurial spirit and start-up mentality–flexible to a changing environment and excited to build new infrastructure while achieving key goals
● Strong commitment to progressive values and to do the work that needs to be done, including regular engagement with direct voter contact
● Strong proficiency with EveryAction/VAN, Google Suite, and organizing metrics
● Some experience with youth organizing, issue and electoral organizing, or knowledge of legislative advocacy strongly preferred
● Good sense of humor, ability to adapt to a changing work environment, and genuine enthusiasm to mentor and learn from young people
● Ability to navigate multiracial, multiethnic, youth spaces with grace and humility
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
● Ability to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends
● Have a driver’s license, automobile insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle
Working at the Georgia Youth Justice Coalition
This is a full-time, permanent position that reports to the Executive Director. Car travel within the state of Georgia will be required 25-35% for site visits with staff and program management. This role is remote, but applicants must live in or be willing to relocate to Georgia.
