Metro Industrial Areas Foundation (Metro IAF) seeks an inaugural Development Director to lead 1) the expansion of its fundraising program (foundation grants, HNW individual donors, etc.); and 2) the capitalization of a $30+ million social investment fund to finance affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization projects sponsored by Metro IAF’s broad-based citizens’ organization affiliates. Metro IAF’s organizing goals are centered on homeownership & climate equity, criminal justice reform, immigrant rights & leadership development, organizing low-income and formerly incarcerated individuals for living wage jobs and organizing across the political divide in swing areas and states.
Relationships & Responsibilities:
The Director will work with a small team: Metro IAF Director, senior Strategy Team leaders, and Shared Leadership Team organizers. The Director reports to and is supervised by the Metro IAF Director, an experienced and willing partner in resource development for IAF. The Metro IAF Development Director will have the following responsibilities:
· Develop a fundraising strategy and plan to meet Metro IAF’s organizing goals and 5-year and annual budget plans
· Conduct foundation research (local and national) to identify potential new funders for general operating and specific project support (6 - 8 figure gifts and grants)
· Co-create relationship-building strategies with the Metro IAF Director and support relationship development and stewardship
· Write compelling proposals and reports
· Research and prepare investment proposals for foundations, religious institutions, financial institutions, and wealthy individual investors for a $30+ million Affordable Housing & Neighborhood Revitalization Fund (currently $11.5 million) for use in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, North Carolina, Illinois and other areas where IAF affiliates work
· Prepare and often join the Metro IAF team for meetings with key potential investors/grantors/donors, including securing meetings, writing briefings and conducting timely follow-up
· Serve as a key partner on communication strategy and implementation to enhance fundraising success
Qualifications:
The successful candidate can come from varied backgrounds and experiences but must have a proven drive to raise money, relate well to a wide variety of people, work independently, write exceptionally well, be proficient in social media communications management as well as have strong attention to detail. The Development Director must be able to manage multiple efforts effectively and forge strong working relationships with Metro IAF’s organizers and volunteer leaders. The job is an excellent leadership opportunity for a mid-career development professional to bring best practices to one of the most recognized, accomplished, innovative, and socially entrepreneurial citizens’ power organization networks in the country and take it to the next level. Candidates need to think big, be fearless, take initiative and be comfortable operating in dynamic settings. A passion for making a direct and positive impact on the most defining social and economic issues of our times is
essential. Experience raising money for social change and organizing is a strong plus. The successful candidate will live in the DC-NY corridor and be able to travel for in-person meetings with the director, colleagues, leaders and donors. Metro IAF is open to candidates who need/want a flexible schedule, including working from a home office.
Compensation:
Salary is commensurate with experience and ranges from $110,000 – $130,000. Metro IAF provides excellent training and generous benefits: family health insurance, vacation, paid holidays, and, after one year, 15% employer pension contribution.
