Position: Assistant Director

Location: Washington State (Remote/Hybrid Option Available but must be located in Washington State)

Reports To: Board President

Status & Salary: Hourly, $30, 32 hours per week (Occasional Weekends and Late Work may be Required During Peak Periods)

Benefits: 16 days of PTO per year, 15 holidays per year selected by the employee.

The Washington Youth Alliance seeks to empower youth across Washington State by fostering essential skills in life, alongside promoting digital literacy and educational and career readiness. Our mission is centered on creating youth-led chapters that advocate for crucial societal issues, including mental health and gun violence prevention, while also ensuring that young people are well-equipped for the technological and professional demands of the future. At Washington Youth Alliance Action Fund, we are dedicated to fostering a sustainable and dynamic future through youth-led grassroots and grasstops organizing in Washington State. Our mission is to empower young leaders by integrating engagement and direct action into our core strategies. We focus on cultivating impactful change through protests, grassroots lobbying, and advocacy, with a particular emphasis on gun violence prevention and enhancing youth mental health supports. We do this through our local chapter teams and youth led board. By nurturing a culture of active participation and leadership among youth, we strive to create lasting solutions that address the pressing challenges of our time.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Director will play a key leadership role within the ever growing WYA/AF, overseeing the day-to-day operations, and supporting the Board President in achieving WYA/AF’s mission and goals. This position involves collaborating with youth leaders and ensuring the smooth implementation of key initiatives. The Assistant Director will support the organization's advocacy efforts, lead fundraising initiatives, and contribute to the growth and sustainability of the organization. We are looking for a self starter who has an array of experiences, and can be trained on certain aspects of the position. We anticipate the applicant to start in December 2024 or January 2025.

  1. ** Program Management & Leadership:**
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of WYA/AF, ensuring the successful implementation of programs and initiatives.

  • Support the development and scaling of WYA’s digital literacy, mental health, and college/career readiness, and chapter team initiatives across Washington State.

Organizational Development:

  • Assist in organizational growth, ensuring WYA/AF remains focused on long-term sustainability and impact.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with strategic partners, funders, and key stakeholders to support the advancement of WYA/AF’s’s mission.

  • Lead internal communications and provide direct support to the staff, consultants, and board members to ensure cohesive organizational operations.

Operational:

  • Help with board management/engagement/recruitment.

  • Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Maintain board records.

  • Help with annual audit / state registrations for fundraising efforts.

  • Maintain financial records.

  • Keep nonprofit registrations up to date.

  • Oversee and track staff and board expense reimbursement process.

  • Run payroll for employees.

Fundraising & Resource Development:

  • Lead and support fundraising efforts, including managing donor relations, writing grants, and leading major events.

  • Collaborate with the Board President on budget planning and financial oversight to ensure financial sustainability.

  • Manage the execution of fundraising campaigns and ensure accurate and timely grant reporting and compliance.

Staff & Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor staff, including the Administrative Assistant, Program Coordinator, and other key personnel.

  • Facilitate staff development opportunities to enhance skills and promote a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in nonprofits, campaigns or independent expenditures, program development, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience in youth organizing, advocacy, or community engagement, particularly in racial equity and social justice contexts.

  • Strong fundraising and resource development skills, with experience managing grants, donor relations, and event planning.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a youth-led, community-driven environment.

  • Willingness to travel across the state to different engagements.

  • Drivers License Required.

  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Washington Youth Alliance, including racial equity, youth empowerment, and advocacy for social change.

  • Understanding in operations and experience in quickbooks is a plus.

  • Understanding and knowledge of a C3/C4/PAC model is a plus.
