JOB DESCRIPTION

Description:

The Civic Engagement Coordinator will use advocacy organizing to build power within Wisconsin’s LGBTQ+ and allied communities to advance the mission of Fair Wisconsin to advance, achieve, and protect equality and liberation for LGBTQ+ Wisconsinites through electoral work for pro-equality candidates and legislative work on pro-equality policy.

Endorsement Process

The Civic Engagement Coordinator will run Fair Wisconsin’s endorsement process. This will include: developing and giving trainings on best practices concerning the issues the LGBTQ+ community faces so candidates are adept at speaking to our issues; developing, disseminating, and analyzing candidate surveys; and working with the Executive Director to form spring endorsement recommendations for the Fair Wisconsin PAC. Depending on the election cycle, this position may assist with independent expenditures for candidates and fulfill any state reporting and compliance duties.

Electoral Organizing

The Civic Engagement Coordinator will run program and travel across Wisconsin during election cycles. This will require significant work with NGP/VAN and include: running in-person and virtual phone banks, text banks, and canvasses; networking with coalition partners; organizing and facilitating roundtable discussions; and other grassroots organizing.

Legislative Assistance

The Civic Engagement Coordinator will provide support for Fair Wisconsin’s legislative work. This will include: tracking LGBTQ+-specific legislation and other legislation relevant to the LGBTQ+ community; monitoring communication concerning the LGBTQ+ community coming out of legislators’ offices; connecting with other organizations and subject matter experts to assist in legislative analysis; assisting with Fair Wisconsin’s Advocacy Day; providing logistical support to staff and supporters of Fair Wisconsin before and during committee hearings.

Development Processing

The Civic Engagement Coordinator will share maintenance duties of Fair Wisconsin’s fundraising database (Every Action NGP 8) with the Statewide Community Organizer. This may involve tracking all in-kind gifts, pledges, and monetary donations on a regular basis, preparing documentation and correspondence (such as “thank you” notes to donors), processing checks and cash deposits, and tracking orders through Fair Wisconsin’s online store and monthly inventory tracking. These duties will involve working closely with Fair Wisconsin’s Accountant to ensure accuracy in data entry and records filing.

This position is full-time (40 hours/week), will require evening/weekend work and travel, and includes health insurance benefits through the ACA exchange. ** This position is eligible for remote work within the state of Wisconsin with the understanding that presence in Madison will be required at a minimum of two times/month.** The Civic Engagement Coordinator works closely with the Policy and Advocacy Director and reports to the Executive Director.
