JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary:

The Political Director is a senior role within the Lander for NYC campaign, responsible for developing, implementing, and managing strategic political initiatives, and managing grasstops endorsements and relationships including but not limited to relationships with elected officials, labor unions, civic leaders, clubs, and other potential endorsers. This position requires a deep understanding of the NYC political landscape, experience in NYC Politics, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders, elected officials, and community leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Leadership:

  • Develop and execute Lander for NYC’s political strategy to achieve campaign goals.

  • Advise senior leadership on political trends, opportunities, and risks.

  • Coordinate with other departments to align political efforts with campaign priorities.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with elected officials, political organizations, and advocacy groups.

  • Represent the campaign at political and community events.

  • Serve as a liaison to political stakeholders, ensuring consistent communication and engagement.

Legislative, Policy & Endorsement Activity:

  • Monitor and analyze legislation, policy proposals, and regulatory changes that either impact the campaign or the campaign may want to weigh in on.

  • Collaborate with policy teams to advance and build support for the campaign’s policy priorities.

  • Prepare briefing materials, testimony, and policy recommendations for the Candidate.

  • Manage the endorsement process including:

  • Advising on endorsement strategy;

  • The drafting of endorsement questionnaires and forum preps

  • Ensuring deadlines are clear and maintained;

  • Staff the Candidate for political call time including prepping the list and managing all follow up.

Event Planning and Coordination:

  • Organize political events, including fundraisers, roundtables, and endorsement meetings.

  • Manage logistics for events, including scheduling, attendee outreach, and follow-up.

  • Ensure events align with the campaign’s goals and messaging.

Field and Volunteer Coordination:

  • Collaborate with the organizing team to align political efforts with grassroots activities.

  • Support volunteer mobilization efforts for political initiatives and events.

  • Provide training and resources to volunteers and staff as needed.

Team Management and Development:

  • This position will report to the Senior Advisor on the campaign and will be a member of the Campaign’s Senior Leadership Team.

  • Lead and manage a small political staff.

  • Work collaboratively with the organizing team to integrate political supporters into our voter contact efforts.

  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.

Communications:

  • Serve as a spokesperson on political matters.

  • Collaborate with communications teams to develop plans and messaging for roll outs and endorsements.

  • Ensure consistent messaging across all political communications channels.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years in political campaigns, legislative affairs, advocacy, or a related field with extensive experience in NYC politics.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of the political process, campaign strategies, and policy development.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven ability to manage teams and build coalitions.

  • Analytical skills to interpret political data and trends.

Working Conditions:

  • Regular travel to meetings, events, and conferences.

  • Availability for evening and weekend work as needed.

Compensation:

  • Salary is $7500-$9000/month, commensurate with experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
