JOB DESCRIPTION

Elissa Slotkin for Michigan is seeking a Director of Political Affairs to lead U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin’s off-cycle political programming; conducting big-picture strategic planning as well as managing the day-to-day of the political operation.

This position may be based in Michigan or Washington, DC.

Interested applicants should email a resume and cover letter to [email protected] with the subject line “Director of Political Affairs.”

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Serving as Senator Slotkin’s primary point of contact regarding her portfolio of political projects, keeping the Senator updated and coordinating her engagement as necessary.

  • Setting the strategic vision and providing overwatch to key political programs.

  • Building a budget for the Senator’s political portfolio – encompassing the LPAC, re-elect, state party, and other entities the Senator may wish to support – and managing a team of consultants and staff to execute those finance and budget goals.

  • Managing the Senator’s relationships and support with her colleagues’ political operations, and regularly keeping candidates apprised of Sen. Slotkin’s financial support.

  • Developing and regularly conducting a strategic planning and scheduling process that aligns with the Senator’s overall goals and political priorities.

  • Overseeing additional programs and initiatives as determined by the Senator.

Qualifications:

  • This is not an entry-level position. Qualified applicants will have at least three cycles of experience in political campaigns, electoral and issue advocacy, or similar fields; with demonstrated experience leading a team within that context.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a multi-million dollar budget.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage personnel, and to manage relationships and communicate effectively with elected officials and key stakeholders.

  • Self-starter who is team-oriented, with strong written and verbal communication skills and strict attention to detail.

Job Type: This position has some flexibility, and may range from part-time to full-time, based on further conversations with the applicant.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
