JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary:
The Communications and Policy Fellow will play a critical role in supporting both the campaign's messaging and policy development efforts. This position offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in political communications, media relations, and policy analysis. The Fellow will work directly with the communications and policy teams to help shape the campaign’s public message, conduct research, and support policy development and outreach efforts. We are looking for someone who can commit to 10-20 hours a week, unpaid. We can build flexibility into the role as well.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications Support:

Media Outreach: Assist the campaign manager in drafting press releases, statements, and media advisories; help maintain media contact lists and assist with pitching reporters.

Social Media: Help manage and curate content for the campaign’s social media accounts, including creating posts, researching trending topics, and assisting with digital strategy.

Content Creation: Write and edit content for campaign materials, such as talking points, speeches, emails, and website content.

Press Monitoring: Track media coverage of the campaign, opposition, and relevant political issues, providing regular updates to the communications team.

Event Promotion: Assist with promoting campaign events through social media, press outreach, and other digital tools.
Policy Support:

Policy Research: Conduct research on key policy issues, including gathering data, analyzing trends, and summarizing findings for the campaign’s policy team.

Issue Briefs: Assist in preparing policy briefs, memos, and talking points that support the candidate’s platform and messaging.

Stakeholder Engagement: Help identify and analyze key stakeholders, including advocacy groups, thought leaders, and local organizations, to inform campaign policy strategies.

Legislative Tracking: Monitor relevant local, state, and national legislation that impacts the candidate’s policy positions and keep the campaign team informed on developments.
General Campaign Support:

Assist with other campaign communications tasks, such as drafting internal updates, and coordinating outreach efforts to engage local communities.

Collaborate with other campaign departments, including field, digital, and fundraising, to ensure consistency of messaging and policy alignment.

Attend campaign events, town halls, and briefings to gather insights for content creation and help document key moments.
Qualifications:

Strong Communication Skills: Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. Ability to create compelling content across multiple platforms.

Interest in Politics and Public Policy: A strong interest in political campaigns, public policy issues, and political communication.

Research Skills: Strong ability to conduct research and synthesize information on a range of political and policy issues.

Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.), content management systems, and basic office software (Google Suite)

Attention to Detail: Ability to work with precision, especially when handling messaging, press materials, and policy content.

Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Team Player: Willingness to collaborate with team members and take direction while contributing new ideas.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in writing for digital platforms, press releases, or policy documents.

Knowledge of local, state, or national political issues and key legislative processes.

Background in political science, communications, public policy, or a related field is preferred.

Previous experience with a political campaign, public relations firm, or policy research organization is a plus.

Fluency in Spanish is not required but a plus!
