JOB DESCRIPTION

Position

Youth Action Fund is a youth-led 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to breaking down barriers to organizing by providing resources to young people in Florida. YAF is building a movement of young Floridians to win transformative change, and we’re looking for a driven Organizing Director to lead our state-wide original campaigns and take point on developing strategies to meet organizational goals.

The Organizing Director will play a key leadership role in advancing YAF’s mission by driving our state-wide organizing efforts. This role requires a passionate, strategic, and experienced organizer who can manage multiple campaigns simultaneously, develop young leaders, and expand the organization’s reach and impact across Florida.

Position Title: Organizing Director

Reports to: Deputy Executive Director

Key Relationships: Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, Advising Director, Programs Director, Labor Organizer

Location: Hybrid

Hours: Full-Time (40 hrs/wk)

Start date: TBD

Compensation: $55,000-$60,000 Annual Salary depending on experience.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Grassroots Mobilization and Activations

  • Engage and activate YAF’s growing network of youth organizers and leaders by connecting them to events, community partners, and organizing opportunities.

  • Organize direct actions, rallies, town hall meetings, lobby days, and other events on behalf of YAF.

  • Design and support initiatives that further YAF’s civic engagement goals, including voter registration and constitutional ballot amendment petitions.

  • Manage outreach and recruitment efforts for YAF programs and events while additionally supporting other departments in their recruitment efforts as needed.

  • Grow our network by proactively prospecting and recruiting youth leaders to engage with YAF’s programs.

  • Complete up to 2 organizing shifts per week with a focus on major events and recruitment opportunities; in addition to covering additional events when needed.

  • Prepare op-eds, essays, presentations, and other materials when needed.

  • Coalition Building and Stewardship

  • Represent YAF and our mission as the main point of contact with partner organizations and movement leaders.

  • Coordinate, build, and sustain strong relationships with fellow progressive organizations.

  • Oversee collaborative actions, events, and campaigns with our partners.

  • Supervision

  • Oversee organizing projects from start to finish including developing the concept, coordinating with key stakeholders and inner departments, recruitment, and logistics.

  • Oversee YAF’s “Organizing Gigs” program.

  • Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve established organizational objectives, including setting goals, timelines, and milestones.

  • Lead and manage the Organizing Department consisting of a growing team of distributed organizers.

  • Manage internal ad hoc staff teams for individual projects, actions, and campaigns as needed.

  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that aligns with YAF’s values and mission within the Organizing Department and shared spaces with our team.

  • As a member of the Leadership team, contribute to organizational decision-making at a high level.

  • Administrative

  • Provide reports about goals for events, upcoming events, and results from recent events.

  • Occasionally draft and provide input on relevant grant proposals and reports.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • At least 4-5 years of proven experience in grassroots organizing and campaign management, with a focus on issue advocacy or political campaigns. Statewide or national experience is strongly preferred.

  • Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively managing a diverse team of organizers and volunteers.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including public speaking, campaign messaging, and report writing.

  • Knowledge of Florida's political landscape and experience working with local and state-wide organizations.

  • Proficient in utilizing organizing and communication software, including CRM systems, digital organizing tools, and social media platforms.

  • Comfort with working on the ground and in the field.

  • Detail-oriented, with exceptional organizational and project management skills.

  • Experience working with students and youth.

  • Shared commitment to YAF’s stated values.

Nice to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in political science or comparable field.
