Why Kansas

With the Governor, US Senate, Attorney General, all other statewide offices, all State House seats, and all U.S. House seats on the ballot, the 2025-2026 election cycle in Kansas will be one of the busiest and most important in the country. The Kansas Democratic Party (KDP) is focused on continuing to build sustaining infrastructure that will defend and elect Democrats across the state over the next two years and beyond.

About the Position

The Communications Assistant is responsible for supporting the outward and internal messaging of the KDP. This position reports to the Media and Outreach Director and works with additional KDP members.

This is a full-time position based in Topeka. Starting annual salary is $48,000. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, vacation, and mileage reimbursement.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage variety of KDP social channels and accounts and monitor social media environment

  • Draft graphics for social media and other KDP needs, as well as for KDP allies

  • Support additional media outreach and event efforts

  • Execute research needs

  • Update KDP website

  • Staff the KDP Chair

  • Assist on other communication-related efforts

  • Other duties as assigned

As we are a small team, all staff members are expected to pitch in on a variety of tasks when needed.

Qualifications and Skills

Committed to details, results, and meeting goals

Knowledge of and proficiency with social media platforms and emerging media platforms

Graphic design skills

Good time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects

Able to take and implement feedback

Good political judgement

Willing to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends

High level of personal and professional integrity

Prior political (communication) experience a plus

Valid Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation

Must live in or relocate to Kansas upon hire
