JOB DESCRIPTION

Friends of Blackwater (FOB) is looking for an organized individual to serve as our Office and Field Manager. We need a self-motivated person, preferably with an undergraduate degree, who can mostly manage their own tasks. We will help arrange housing if necessary. FOB is a 501(c)3 nonprofit environmental conservation organization that works to preserve and protect the unique ecology and history of the Blackwater River Watershed (West Virginia’s Scenic Crown Jewel). We were originally founded to move the iconic Blackwater Canyon into public ownership, and have expanded our mission over the past 25 years to include watershed restoration, outdoor recreational development, historical and environmental education, and broad environmental advocacy.

The Office and Field Manager will be responsible for:

  • Accounting: Label/copy receipts and send to bookkeeper, use Microsoft Access to enter donations, purchases and grants into our digital database, write thank you letters and create mailing lists. Manage our online store, and package items for shipping.

  • Volunteer Management: We often have teams of volunteers to assist with various projects. Adequate leadership skills are necessary. The Office and Field Manager will be responsible for communicating with/organizing volunteer groups and acting as a touchpoint for all volunteer activity.

  • Tours: Friends of Blackwater runs rail walks, including historical and environmental focused tours. Applicants should be interested in local ecology and history. The Trail Coordinator will run these tours and create pamphlets/ads to promote them.

  • Event Planning: Assist in planning numerous fundraising events throughout the year. Must communicate well and be able to coordinate with multiple parties.

  • Misc: Other miscellaneous tasks relating to the general operations of the organization at the office, including supporting work of other staffers.

This is a part-time position with a somewhat flexible schedule and with the potential of increasing hours; in-person work from the FOB office in the Town of Thomas, WV is expected, and a car is required. Compensation above $15 per hour will be dependent on experience. This is an opportunity to work in one of the most unique and beautiful outdoors destinations in the Mid-Atlantic region!
