JOB DESCRIPTION
Down Ballot Field Organizer
Build power for Democrats in rural Maine.
The Maine Democratic Party (MDP) is hiring a field organizer to help build long-term Democratic power in some of the most competitive and challenging areas of the state. Organizers will be at the heart of our effort to strengthen Democratic infrastructure, recruit and mobilize volunteers, support down ballot candidates and engage Maine communities in the political process.
About the Role
We’re looking for passionate, hardworking individuals eager to roll up their sleeves, meet people where they are, and build lasting Democratic power in rural areas of Maine. This is a boots-on-the-ground position, and organizers should expect to spend significant time in the field working directly with voters, volunteers, and candidates.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Bench Building & Candidate Support: Identify and cultivate future Democratic candidates, develop recruiting networks to expand candidate outreach, and help implement grassroots local campaigns.
Strategic Organizing & Relationship-Building: Work closely with county and municipal Democratic organizations, allied partners, and community leaders to expand Democratic engagement.
Volunteer Recruitment & Management: Recruit, train, and manage volunteer teams to support local Democratic campaign efforts.
Field Office Operations: Manage a field office, ensuring smooth daily operations and creating a welcoming space for volunteers.
Voter Contact & Mobilization: Knock doors, make calls, and execute direct voter outreach to persuade and turn out Democratic voters.
Data & Accountability: Track outreach efforts, maintain accurate voter contact data, and use organizing metrics to guide campaign strategy.
Support Local Organizing Director: Support the MDP’s Organizing Director by strategically developing our bench of candidates and volunteers in areas of need, protecting Democrats in vulnerable seats, and working as part of a collaborative team to expand the map for Democratic candidates.
Qualifications
-
A commitment to Democratic values and a passion for grassroots organizing.
-
Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build relationships with a diverse group of voters, volunteers, and community members.
-
Experience with political organizing, volunteer management, or community engagement preferred (but not required).
-
Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and adapt to a fast-paced campaign environment.
-
A willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
-
Access to reliable transportation (as this role involves in-person fieldwork across the region).
This position reports to a Local Organizing Director and is a great opportunity to play a key role in growing Democratic strength in Maine.
This is a full-time position that pays $20/hr and offers a generous benefits package and competitive salary commensurate with experience. This position is a part of the Maine Democratic Party employees' bargaining unit, represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #1837.
