Fellowship Details

Message Digital offers a paid, 25 hour per week, remote, 8-10 week summer fellowship. Fellowships are expected to begin in early June and conclude in early August, though dates may shift slightly. Candidates must have a computer to use for the duration of the fellowship. Ideal candidates will have an interest in and familiarity with electoral politics and campaigning, as well as an interest in the rapidly evolving field of digital marketing. We look for candidates with strong communication skills, good attention to detail, a sense of curiosity, and a willingness to explore new ideas.

Our summer fellowships are intended for anyone interested in learning more about the world of digital marketing and do not require current college enrollment. However, applicants must be at least 18 years old.

As a Textify Fellow at Message Digital, you’ll work closely with our team of texting experts to help raise money for campaigns, PACs and non-profits, engage lapsed supporters, and persuade and turnout voters. You’ll learn how to build texting programs that optimize deliverability, send speed, and click-through rates. You will measure campaign performance, including A/B tests, assist in proofreading and quality control, and create shortlink redirect chains. Experience in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets is a bonus, but not required. Message's staff will work with you to improve your skills and understanding of political communications, online organizing, and job hunting in this industry.

Responsibilities

Fellowships may include the following duties:

• Drafting texting campaigns

• Creating and updating performance trackers, and using those results to assess A/B tests to optimize ongoing and future sends

• Generating shortlinks and tracking click-through rates

• Proofreading scripts and checking shortlink redirect chains

• Build reports in Google Sheets to aggregate performance metrics for clients’ programs

• Exploring new technology options and platforms, including ActBlue, ActionKit, and Hub, to find new and innovative ways to help clients reach their goals

Location

This fellowship is remote but the candidate must reside in and work from one of the following states: Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Virginia, Washington.

Salary

Fellows will be paid the prevailing minimum wage in Berkeley, CA, home of Message’s headquarters (currently $18.07/hour). This is a non-benefited position.
