JOB DESCRIPTION

About Us

The Voter Participation Center (VPC) is the nation’s largest non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to registering to vote and mobilizing people to vote from underrepresented communities. We serve people of color, young people, and unmarried women – who make up the majority of the potential electorate, but have been historically underrepresented in political participation. Using direct mail, digital and social media outreach, guided by rigorous data science and experimentation, and working closely with a multitude of partner organizations, VPC connects with millions of voters each year, building the foundation for a more representative democracy. Over the past 22 years, VPC has helped more than 6.6 million people register to vote. VPC is driven by a commitment to constant research, testing, experimentation, and evaluation, and thus offers many of the most cost-effective, proven, high-impact programs in the civic engagement field.

The Center for Voter Information (CVI) is VPC’s partner organization. It is a separate but affiliated 501(c)4 non-profit that works to engage voters from underrepresented communities and members of the broader electorate who share their values.

VPC-CVI does not sponsor work visas for potential or hired employees under any circumstances.

This position is based in Washington, D.C., where we work a hybrid schedule, coming into the office on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Role

VPC and CVI are seeking a Senior Manager of Community Outreach to join their Partnerships and Outreach team. Reporting to the Vice President of Partnerships and Outreach and working closely with the Deputy Director of Partnerships and Outreach, the Senior Manager builds awareness of VPC and CVI’s programs, coordinates with other civic engagement organizations in targeted states, and communicates with state and local election officials. The Partnerships and Outreach team coordinates projects with partners, communicates proactively and responsively with state and national organizations as well as election officials, and manages information relating to VPC and CVI programs and partnerships throughout the states.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an organization committed to fulfilling the promise of democracy for all and to help promote innovative voter registration and mobilization strategies. The right candidate will be self-motivated, collaborative, a people person, and committed to the mission of VPC and CVI. This is a full-time position that can be done remotely (non-DC-based staff) or hybrid (DC-based staff), though there is a strong preference for a DC-based staff member.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with state and national civic engagement organizations, including communicating about VPC/CVI mail and digital programs, learning about state dynamics, and sharing feedback and input with VPC/CVI teams;

  • Communicate with election officials, particularly in advance of program production, and manage follow-up and tracking of feedback;

  • Draft written communication and help develop materials to cultivate partnerships including proposals, slide decks, background research, email communications, webinars, and reports;

  • Manage outreach databases and email listserv, maintaining up to date information related to partnerships across multiple states and organizations;

  • Support creation and execution of agreements and MOUs with partners, as well as post-program reporting;

  • Build internal cross-departmental awareness and alignment on partnerships;

  • Prepare briefing materials for colleagues and VPC/CVI leadership;

  • Maintain a calendar of outreach opportunities including meetings and events;

  • Other duties as assigned

Must-Haves:

  • 2-3 years of experience with civic engagement / voter engagement campaigns or similar outreach work

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple time-sensitive projects, including balancing short-term requests with longer term or cyclical responsibilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

  • Extreme attention to detail

  • Ability to work collaboratively and approach challenges thoughtfully

  • Previous database management and/or data entry experience

  • Fluency in GoogleSuite including Sheets

  • Commitment to increasing electoral participation of historically underrepresented populations

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with civic engagement and/or progressive nonprofit organizations and coalitions at the state and/or national level

  • Experience working with state or local election offices

  • Experience working with nonprofit organization leaders

  • 1-2 cycles of political campaign experience, including mail and/or digital

  • Familiarity with NGP VAN and voter contact platforms

  • Knowledge of social science and data analysis

  • Experience preparing reports

  • Experience with Mailchimp or similar email marketing platforms

  • Familiarity with Asana or other project management softwares and Slack

Work Environment:

  • We work a hybrid schedule, coming into the office on Tuesday and Wednesday.

  • Some travel is required.
