Team Jason Esteves is seeking a Press Secretary to become a key member of the Communications team. The Press Secretary will coordinate and implement day-to-day press operations, staff, and travel with Senator Esteves for open press events and media availabilities, serve as a primary contact for Georgia reporters, and much more. The communications team is looking for a strong writer and a team player who can manage competing priorities, even during in-state travel. Qualified applicants should have an advanced understanding of how to accomplish the campaign’s communications goals through proactive earned media opportunities. This opportunity is an excellent chance to build professional relationships within Georgia’s incredible press corps. The Press Secretary will be managed by the Communications Director. This is not an entry level position.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day press operations including responding to media inquiries, drafting and distributing event advisories, press releases, and statements, and more
- Write and edit speeches, op-eds, talking points and other materials
- Serve as the main point of contact and spokesperson for Georgia press
- Manage logistics for all press interviews
- Serve as campaign team’s primary press staffer during campaign travel
- Manage communications intern(s)
- Build and manage media monitoring infrastructure
Qualifications
- At least two years of political communications experience, including at least one campaign cycle in a communications role
- Proficiency in Google Suite and Mailchimp
- Strong writing skills, attention to detail, and passion for the work
- On the record experience a plus
- Familiarity with Georgia’s press corps and media landscape a plus
- Access to a car and ability to easily travel
Logistics
- Salary: $65,000 to $75,000, commensurate with experience
- Location: Atlanta, GA
- Hours: This position’s schedule will vary based on the needs of the campaign and point in the cycle, and is likely to require evening and weekend work over the course of the election cycle.
