JOB DESCRIPTION

About Rob Sand

Auditor Rob Sand is Iowa’s only statewide elected Democrat. In the first 24 hours in the race Rob raised an Iowa record $2.25m. Immediately after Rob’s entry into the race, Cook Political Report released an updated rating on the Iowa governor’s race, moving it from “Solid Republican” to “Lean Republican,” a rare “‘double jump' rating change,” calling Rob the “strongest contender his party could have recruited for the open seat.”

Position Overview

The Digital Director will develop and execute an aggressive digital strategy that engages Iowa voters, amplifies our campaign message, and drives measurable results. This role requires a creative thinker with a strong background in digital marketing, digital fundraising, social media, and data analytics. Prior experience in Iowa politics or a strong understanding of the state’s political landscape is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Strategy Development: Design and implement a comprehensive digital strategy aligned with the campaign’s goals. Identify opportunities to maximize reach, engagement, and conversion across digital channels.

Digital Organizing: Design and implement a digital organizing program that encourages Iowa voters to take action on-line and IRL, including by lifting up campaign content, sharing user generated content, combating mis-and dis-information, and building online community.

Surrogate and Influencer Development: Identify, engage, and collaborate with online surrogates and social media influencers to spread Rob’s message to more voters and donors.

Social Media Management: Oversee the creation, scheduling, and optimization of content across platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTock, YouTube, and Reddit. Engage with constituents and influencers to build an active and supportive online community.

Website & Content Oversight: Collaborate with designers and content creators to maintain an engaging, user-friendly website. Ensure content is timely, informative, and optimized for SEO.

Digital Advertising: Collaborate with campaign consultants on the development and optimization of paid digital campaigns, including social ads and search engine marketing. Monitor budgets and performance metrics to ensure effective allocation of resources.

Analytics & Reporting: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular reports on digital campaign performance. Use data-driven insights to refine strategies and drive continuous improvement.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with communications, field, and fundraising teams to ensure digital efforts support overall campaign objectives. Coordinate rapid-response efforts during campaign events and crisis situations.

Innovation & Trend Monitoring: Stay current with digital trends, tools, and best practices, adapting strategies as needed. Test and implement new digital tactics to keep our campaign ahead of the curve.

Qualifications

Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in digital marketing, digital communications, or a related field, preferably in a political or campaign setting. Proven track record managing digital campaigns with measurable results.

Iowa Connection: Prior experience working in Iowa politics or a strong understanding of the state’s political and digital landscape is highly desirable.

Technical Proficiency: Expertise in social media platforms, content management systems, digital advertising platforms (Facebook Ads, Google Ads, etc.), and analytics tools (Google Analytics, social insights tools).
