We are in search of a Data Services Director who will be instrumental in advancing our mission by providing expert management, architecture and analysis of data and strategic insights to our clients, facilitating informed decision-making and impactful results. This is a full-time role with some weekend work, particularly November through December.
Summary
As a Data Services Director at Message Digital, you will lead the development and management of our data infrastructure for our Textify managed service texting program. You’ll ensure our teams and clients have the insights and tools they need to raise money and communicate with their supporters.
You will be working with a tech stack that includes Microsoft Azure cloud services, Microsoft SQL Server, Google Workspace. You’ll also work with the Democratic Party tech stack, including but not limited to platforms like ActBlue, ActionKit, Action Network, Civis, NGPVAN, EveryAction, and more.
Responsibilities

Develop and maintain infrastructure for effective data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) utilizing Azure and SQL technologies, streamlining data processing workflows.

Develop, manage, and optimize data systems for storing, transforming, and analyzing large datasets for Message Digital and its clients, ensuring high performance, security, and reliability.

Utilize C#, Python, SQL, and additional programming languages as required to analyze, summarize, and report on critical data insights.

Assemble, manage, and optimize large and complex data sets to meet both functional and non-functional business requirements, enhancing data accessibility and utility.

Design and implement efficient data movement strategies between databases, multiple data sources, and analytical tools, ensuring seamless data integration and accessibility.

Develop and maintain sophisticated automated dashboards in Google Sheets, tailored to the unique needs of nonprofit organizations.

Collaborate extensively with stakeholders across Executive, Product, Data, and Design teams to address data infrastructure needs, troubleshoot technical issues, and support cross-functional data initiatives.

Drive process improvements by optimizing data delivery, automating manual tasks, and enhancing data management practices to boost efficiency and data quality.

Uphold the highest standards of data quality and reliability, proactively identifying opportunities for data acquisition and integration to support organizational objectives.

Build, maintain, and support analytical tools, providing technical assistance to team members to facilitate data-driven decision-making.

Collaborate closely with data vendors to ensure seamless integration and optimization of data sources.

Lead strategic projects based on analytical findings, offering innovative solutions to meet the evolving demands of clients.

Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management, adapting to evolving business needs and contributing to the team’s success.
Required Skills

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Azure services. Specifically Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, and Azure SQL.

Demonstrated experience in deploying and managing data pipelines.

Proficiency in SQL and C# or Python with at least 5+ years of professional experience.

Strong proficiency in spreadsheet skills, especially in Google Sheets, with a demonstrated ability to develop automated, client-specific reporting tools.

Strong proficiency in database management, architecture and analysis.

Strong analytical skills with a passion for quantitative problem-solving, meticulous attention to detail, and effective multitasking abilities.

Proven ability to prioritize projects, with a capacity for both independent direction and delegating tasks as needed.

Eagerness to excel in a fast-paced environment, possessing a proactive attitude toward tackling unique challenges and devising creative solutions.
Preferred Skills
We will look favorably on candidates who have experience with any of the following:

Texting and/or email content strategy

Texting tools like Hustle, ThruText, Spoke, Switchboard or Tatango

Salary & Benefits
The minimum salary expectation for this role is $130,000. Exact title and salary to be determined based on experience.
