JOB DESCRIPTION

Joshua Cole’s campaign in Virginia’s 65th House of Delegates District (Cole for VA) in Fredericksburg is seeking a dedicated and passionate Summer Interns for its field team. Field Interns will be a critical part of the team that re-elects Joshua Cole to represent Fredericksburg’s HD-65, one of the most competitive seats in the Commonwealth. Interns will gain a behind-the-scenes view of a highly competitive state legislative political campaign, a baseline knowledge of the skills used in field programming, event planning, voter outreach, and data management, as well as new professional development opportunities building toward a future career in politics.

The Summer Internship with the Cole for VA Field Team is a part-time, paid internship from July 29th through September 15th. The campaign is based in Fredericksburg, VA. Summer Interns will be required to work limited in-person hours. Summer Interns will report directly to the Political Director. Interns will receive a $1,000 stipend and can receive academic credit for participation.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Conducting direct voter contact through door knocking, phone calls, textbanking, trainings, and community events

  • Performing data entry, research projects, and learning about current events and issues throughout the district

  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to participate in direct voter contact to build a sustainable field operation

  • Assisting with event planning, recruitment, and on-location set-up and staffing

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to discuss political issues and convey the stakes of the election with voters from a wide range of backgrounds

  • Ability to work in a competitive, fast-paced campaign environment

  • Proactive problem-solving, strong attention to detail, and the ability to meet strict deadlines

  • Enthusiasm for government, public policy, political campaigns, and electing Democrats

  • The ability to work limited in-person hours to assist with local events and other tasks

  • Previous experience with political campaigns (volunteering, internships, etc) is a plus, but is certainly not a requirement

  • 10-15 hours of weekly availability
