Overview:
Blue Wave America is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as part-time Deputy Field Organizers for the 2025 election cycle, leading the effort to drive voter turnout in rural counties of Virginia.
Deputy Field Organizers will work to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, and will be responsible for implementing an aggressive field plan, and helping to meet GOTV goals throughout the Valley region of Rural Virginia. In addition, Deputy Field Organizers will be responsible for engaging in relational organizing strategies by cultivating relationships with community members and volunteers.
Deputy Field Organizers will report directly to the Regional Field Director. This is a hybrid position, requiring in-personal travel throughout the Valley region of Rural Virginia, which includes Alleghany, Augusta, Bath, Bedford, Botetour, Buena Vista, Roanoke, Rockbridge, Salem, and Waynesboro. Candidates with prior personal or professional experience in rural Virginia are strongly encouraged to apply.
Compensation for this position is $20/hour, up to 20 hours per week, paid in installments twice monthly. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. This part-time, temporary position is based in the Valley region of Virginia, and ends on November 4, 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Implementing all aspects of the field program in the assigned region.
-
Coordinating and participating in direct voter contact programs to persuade and mobilize voters including phonebanking, door-knocking, and textbanking.
-
Building strong relationships with community members, partners, and volunteers.
-
Meeting weekly voter contact goals.
-
Representing Blue Wave America with professionalism at designated events.
Qualifications and Desirables:
-
Great interpersonal skills — ability to listen well and communicate effectively.
-
Strong time management and organizational skills.
-
Willingness to work campaign hours, including nights and weekends.
-
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
-
Experience volunteering or working for campaigns is a plus but it is not required.
-
Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable access to a vehicle, mobile phone, and laptop.
-
Strong commitment to Democratic politics and ideals, and electing Democratic candidates.
Women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and individuals with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. Studies have shown that folks with these backgrounds are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they meet every requirement. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may come from a less traditional background. We may consider an equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. If you are interested in applying, we encourage you to think broadly about your background and skill set for the role.
