JOB DESCRIPTION
The Office of the Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina is a small but high-impact team seeking a seasoned communicator to lead messaging strategy, shape public narrative, and elevate the Lieutenant Governor’s profile across North Carolina and beyond. The Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff bring years of experience in North Carolina politics and public service -- we’re looking for a partner who can complement that expertise by driving compelling, results-oriented communications campaigns.
This is a hands-on leadership role with room to build. The Communications Director will oversee one additional communications staff member, with a strong focus on digital content and execution, while leading the overall strategy and voice of the office.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and lead a communications strategy that positions the Lieutenant Governor as a future-ready, pro-business leader.

Design and execute media campaigns that highlight her work, priorities, and long-term vision for the state.

Shape messaging that connects with business leaders, working families, and new audiences across digital, traditional, and community platforms.

Provide strategic communications counsel to the Lieutenant Governor and senior staff.

Collaborate across departments (scheduling, policy, and legislative) to ensure alignment and visibility around office initiatives.

Supervise one communications team member, with an emphasis on growing the office’s digital presence and engagement.

Support the development and rollout of key _Future Ready NC _initiatives.
Qualifications

10+ years of experience in communications, public affairs, or government relations.

A background that blends private sector knowledge with public policy experience or managing campaigns that shape major state-level narratives.

Demonstrated ability to distill complex policy into clear, accessible, and engaging messaging.

Proven leadership experience building a team, coaching staff, and working collaboratively across functions.

Strong instincts around media strategy, digital engagement, and emerging platforms.

A collaborative, solutions-oriented approach with a focus on impact.
