The Field Director is responsible for building and managing the campaign’s voter contact program. This role oversees volunteer recruitment, training, and retention; manages petitioning, canvassing, and phonebank operations; and ensures that all direct voter contact reflects the campaign’s values and strategic goals.
The Field Director will work closely with Campaign Leadership to draft and execute a comprehensive field plan, identify and develop volunteer leaders, and track measurable progress toward voter outreach and turnout goals.
Please note: this is a Full-time position, with additional hours expected as Election Day approaches; availability on some nights and weekends is required.
Key Responsibilities

Recruit, train, and retain a large group of enthusiastic volunteers to communicate the campaign’s message to voters via door-knocking, phonebanking, and street canvassing.
-
Identify and develop a team of volunteer leaders and building captains to assist in planning and execution.
-
Draft and execute a strategic field plan to identify supporters, and turn those supporters out to vote.
-
Support overall campaign visibility efforts, including coordinating multiple Days of Action, community events, and other public-facing activities.
-
Oversee the candidate’s direct voter contact responsibilities, which can include cutting turf and knocking doors alongside.
-
Hire, direct, and assess the performance of a team of paid canvassers.
-
Track metrics and adjust strategy to keep the campaign on pace to meet its goals.
-
Create all direct voter contact scripts, and set up campaign tools to track responses to direct voter contact conversations.
-
Use data analysis to track progress toward voter contact and petition goals, making strategic adjustments as needed to ensure the campaign stays on pace.
-
Maintain flexibility in planning and execution to respond quickly to changing campaign needs and conditions.
Qualifications
-
Ability to establish a safe, respectful, and joyous campaign culture that appreciates the efforts of volunteers and campaign workers while holding all involved accountable to the campaign’s goals.
-
Expertise in tools such as NGP VAN/Votebuilder. (Bonus if you’ve worked with Good Party’s tools before.)
-
Commitment to strengthening the socialist movement by identifying, training, and developing new volunteer leaders and large volunteer teams.
-
At least one cycle of NYC field experience, or 2-3 cycles elsewhere.
-
Spanish proficiency is preferred, but not required.
