JOB DESCRIPTION

Montgomery County Council Campaign is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Field Director to work in Montgomery County, Maryland. The Field Director will plan and implement a comprehensive grassroots program including but not limited to direct voter contact, voter registration efforts, volunteer recruitment, stakeholder outreach, and event management. The Field Director needs to be highly organized, energetic, capable of motivating and managing staff, hired support, and volunteers and able to manage large quantities of data.

Job Responsibilities

The Field Director will work to accomplish the following objectives:

  • Build a volunteer base to ensure sustainable outreach and voter engagement throughout the span of the election.

  • Build strategic relationships with stakeholders, supporters, local communities and faith communities to provide an electoral support network.

  • Turn out Democratic voters in County Councilmanic District 1 by running an aggressive Get Out The Vote (GOTV) program.

  • Quickly grasp policy issues that impact Montgomery County.

Specific responsibilities of the Field Director include but are not limited to following:

  • Building and deploying a volunteer base by (1) recruiting, motivating, and managing volunteers for canvassing, phone banking, and data entry, and (2) working (either directly or through volunteers/interns) to ensure that our volunteer databases are organized and kept up-to-date;

  • Hire field organizers and support staff to execute a paid canvassing effort

  • Assist in organizing events such as meet & greets, house parties, and fundraising events;

  • Executing aggressive GOTV strategies via phone, texting, and door-to-door contact;

  • Organizing phone banks, canvasses, and texting efforts, ensuring that all get-out-the vote contact goals are met;

  • Supervising and training interns;

  • Coordinating with the candidate, campaign leadership, hired support, and campaign volunteers;

  • Supporting fundraising and community outreach activities; and

  • Staffing the candidate as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Successful applicants will demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and experience with the Voter Activation Network (VAN/Votebuilder);

  • Previous experience as a campaign staffer or manager is encouraged;

  • Strong time-management skills and work ethic;

  • Ability to motivate volunteers to reach goals;

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills;

  • Ability to spend time on the phone and canvassing;

  • Ability to adapt quickly and accomplish goals as set forth by the campaign;

  • Ability to work under a dynamic, changing, and fast paced environment;

  • Results-oriented, dependable, and proactive;

  • Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality;

  • Worked with various stakeholder organizations and diverse communities;

  • Ties to Montgomery County or previous political experience in Montgomery County a plus

  • Must have a car

Duration

The Field Director is a limited duration assignment, with a targeted start date of January 1, 2026 and an end date of June 30, 2026 (one week after Election Day). Compensation will be based on experience.
