JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Leadership Program Manager

Reports To: National Director of Leadership Programs

Position Location: Remote, those based in Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, New York, Nevada, Michigan, and Washington, D.C. are especially encouraged to apply

Position Type: Full-time, exempt, union; this is a one-year position with the potential opportunity for extension. Please note: employment is not guaranteed for any specific length of time.

Travel: Periodic travel required, 5-6 times per year

Compensation: $72,000 to $78,000

About the Organization:

New American Leaders (NAL) and New American Leaders Action Fund (NALAF) are working to build an inclusive democracy by preparing first and second-generation immigrants and refugees to run for office, win their campaigns, and lead in elected office. We are the only organizations preparing New Americans to enter the political process and govern with accountability and authenticity. As a result of our work, more New Americans will run for office, engage their communities, turn out new voters, and ultimately serve as values-aligned leaders in office who can advance just and equitable policies.

Position Description:

The Leadership Program Manager supports the National Director of Leadership Programs and the Leadership Programs Team by driving project management and accountability across trainings and initiatives, with a specific focus on our Ready to Win® training. The Program Manager will also coordinate several initiatives such as alumni engagement, pre-candidate coaching, recruitment campaigns, partnership pipeline development, and/or campaign staff pipeline development, based on team needs, workload, strengths, and interests.

Responsibilities:

Program Management (60%)

  • Plan and execute national and regional trainings and events, ensuring high-quality delivery

  • Support the National Director of Leadership Programs and other team members as they plan and execute their trainings and events

  • Provide project management and strategic support for Ready to Win®

  • Manage assigned projects and initiatives such as recruitment campaigns or campaign staff pipeline development

  • Recruit community leaders to participate in programming and run for office, meeting organizational, team, and event goals

  • Collaborate with the team to maintain systems that track participant pipelines and program outcomes

  • Prepare program updates and documentation for internal and external reporting needs

Alumni Community Engagement (15%)

  • Inform the design of and support the implementation of the Alumni Engagement Program, building relationships to keep alumni connected

  • Coordinate communications to alumni, sharing opportunities, resources, and updates through email, social media, and other channels managed by the Communications Team

  • Help plan and implement alumni events and engagement opportunities (virtual and in-person), working with the Leadership Team to align with organizational goals

  • Track alumni running for office as well as participation and engagement data to support reporting and strategy development

Pre-Candidate Coaching & Political Support (10%)

  • Provide guidance, training and consultation to NAL alumni with their plans to run for office or work on campaigns

  • Track participation, collect feedback, and synthesize lessons learned to inform the redesign of our pre-candidate coaching program

  • After redesign, assume day-to-day coordination of the coaching program, including participant-coach matching, scheduling, tracking, and reporting

  • Contribute insights from alumni engagement and training experiences to strengthen the integration of coaching into the broader leadership development pipeline

  • Conduct political and electoral research that inform landscape analyses and coaching strategy

Team Support and Organization (10%)

  • Support the Director in developing tools and processes that improve team organization and accountability, with a particular focus on facilitation, curriculum support, tracking progress to goals, and project management

  • Help maintain organized records and reference documents so that institutional knowledge is preserved year to year

  • Contribute to a strong team culture by sharing resources, lessons, and best practices with colleagues

Partnership Development (5%)

  • Support the Leadership Team in the cultivation of relationships with partners relevant to leadership development and programmatic goals

  • Represent NAL/AF at partner events when appropriate, helping to strengthen organizational visibility

  • Assist Regional Program Managers in identifying and developing partnerships

  • Develop and manage your own set of partners

Additional duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to serving immigrant communities and fostering an inclusive democracy, with cultural sensitivity to diverse communities, including undocumented and under-documented populations

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in political campaigns and/or political organizing, ideally with direct experience supporting candidates, campaign staff, or leadership development programs

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage timelines, competing priorities, and multiple stakeholders at once

  • Strong experience planning, supporting, and facilitating high-quality events and trainings

  • Familiarity with pre-candidate coaching, political leadership development, or alumni engagement strategies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly to diverse audiences

  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically for trainings and events

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate relationships with partners, alumni, and stakeholders at all levels

  • Attention to detail and follow through on all elements of work

  • Ability to work independently while staying accountable to team goals, with flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities, solve problems, and take on tasks of any size

  • Experience with Asana (project management) and HubSpot (CRM) preferred but not required

Salary and Benefits

NAL/AF offers a competitive salary, benefits, and leave policies. The salary is $72,000 to $78,000 with a comprehensive benefits package: 20 days of vacation plus winter break, flex time; Full coverage health insurance option: medical, dental and vision; Vanguard 401K plan with 5% match (eligible after 3 months); Health Care Flexible Spending Account Plan; Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account Plan; Life insurance and personal accident insurance; Voluntary Short-term and long-term disability insurance, and a work from home and telecommunications stipend.
