JOB DESCRIPTION

Kat Abughazaleh’s congressional campaign seeks to hire a dedicated and results-oriented Finance Director ahead of the 2026 Democratic primary in Illinois’ Ninth Congressional District. This position will last until March 20, 2026 with the additional possibility of extension until November 6, 2026. Applications for this position close on September 30, 2025. This is a primarily in-person position which requires establishing residence in or near the Ninth District and frequently working in-person at our Rogers Park campaign headquarters.

Kat’s campaign is about trying new things, because the same old shit isn’t working for Democrats across the country. This is an opportunity to try out the ideas that made past bosses look at you like you were crazy — or to suggest the ideas that you felt couldn’t even be said out loud in traditional campaign environments. But at the same time, we’re also looking for people with at least two cycles of campaign fundraising experience reaching out to donors, developing finance plans, and coordinating fundraising goals.

Salary range: $6,000-$7,500/month

Benefits: Monthly healthcare stipend available to uninsured staff; unlimited vacation and sick days; monthly mileage stipend

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Ideate, plan, and execute a variety of fundraising events both locally and nationally, including houseparties and HNWI-centered events

  • Staff the candidate during donor outreach efforts and events, both virtually and in-person

  • Take initiative to prepare and send donor outreach materials when necessary

  • Track donor contacts and maintain donor relationships

  • Assist candidate and campaign manager with fundraising and budgetary tasks

  • Regularly report on fundraising goals and results to the campaign manager and the campaign’s finance team

  • Develop fundraising projections based on past data and anticipated events

  • Staff candidate during national fundraising travel

Requirements:

  • Ties to the Ninth District or the Chicagoland area are strongly preferred but not required

  • At least two cycles of campaign fundraising experience is required, especially on fast-paced, competitive, federal races

  • Experience with relevant software such as ActBlue, Numero, and NGP VAN is required

  • Ability to work in-person at our campaign headquarters 4-5 days per week (the office is located a 2-minute walk from the Rogers Park Metra stop, a 12-minute walk from the Morse Red Line stop, and a 1-minute walk from various bus stops at Clark and Lunt and Clark and Greenleaf)

  • Willingness to work outside of traditional office hours in order to staff events and fulfill other campaign duties (We pride ourselves on a healthy workplace and culture and fully expect you to have a life outside of this campaign, but we are a small team that prioritizes flexibility and creativity, which means there will very often be nontraditional hours and responsibilities)

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously

Kat for Illinois is committed to including people of all backgrounds in our campaign and as such is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates of color, women and gender minorities, LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, and people with nontraditional educational or work experiences are strongly encouraged to apply.
