JOB DESCRIPTION

Abdul for Senate is seeking talented candidates to work as a Deputy Digital Director for the 2026 election cycle. We are looking for passionate, hardworking individuals who are committed to our mission of electing Abdul El-Sayed our next U.S. Senator.

Role Overview:

The Deputy Digital Director will help lead our campaign’s online presence and grow a powerful, authentic digital community across Michigan and beyond. This person will work closely with the Digital Director to manage day-to-day social media operations, oversee content calendars, and ensure our message reaches voters where they are, with creativity, clarity, and consistency. This will be a full time position based in Ann Arbor, MI, although there is flexibility with remote work and a relocation timeline. This position offers compensation in the form of a monthly salary and healthcare benefits.

Responsibilities:

● Manage the campaign’s social media channels day-to-day — drafting, scheduling, and posting across platforms, maintaining consistency in tone, message, and visual identity.

● Write compelling copy for posts and video scripts, distilling complex issues into accessible, human-centered messages.

● Build and manage the campaign’s social content calendar, coordinating across digital, communications, and organizing teams to align on message priorities.

● Track social trends and rapid response moments, and recommend proactive opportunities to grow engagement and expand reach.

● Assist with creative concepting for digital pushes, paid media moments, and campaign rollouts, from rapid-response graphics to storytelling video series.

● Analyze social media metrics, identifying what content performs best and providing actionable recommendations to improve engagement, growth, and conversion.

● Support video scripting, caption writing, and creative briefs for in-house shoots and partner content.

● Oversee content trafficking and approvals, ensuring posts move smoothly from concept to publish.

● Occasionally travel to campaign events to support content capture and live posting.

● Other digital or communications duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Required):

● At least 3 years of experience in digital communications, social media management, or campaign digital roles.

● Proven success growing and managing social media channels for a candidate, organization, or brand.

● Strong writing skills with demonstrated ability to write in another person’s voice, particularly in a political or advocacy context.

● Deep understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, X/Twitter, Facebook, Threads, YouTube) and what types of content perform best on each.

● Experience managing social calendars, producing short-form content, and collaborating with creative teams.

● Experience building or managing an influencer or partner engagement program.

● Ability to work quickly and accurately under tight deadlines, often in response to real-time news or rapid response opportunities.

● Must have transportation to attend events as needed

● Proficiency with Excel and Google Drive

● Willingness to work irregular hours including some nights and weekends.

● Superior written and verbal communication skills

● Ability to learn new skills and take on new challenges, with a desire to learn and a willingness to ask questions

● Ability to balance between competing priorities in a fast-paced, demanding environment while maintaining exceptional organization and attention to detail

● Commitment to electing Abdul El-Sayed to the U.S. Senate

● Ability to demonstrate multicultural competence – the awareness, knowledge and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant and productive ways

● Personal and professional commitment to promoting and investing in cross-cultural skills and awareness related to individuals from broad backgrounds, races, ethnicities, religions, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability

Qualifications (Preferred):

● Experience directly filming with a principal candidate is a plus.

● Previous experience working in Michigan or on statewide or national races is strongly preferred.

● Familiarity with rapid response workflows, content approvals, and compliance processes in political environments.

● Video editing and graphic design experience is a plus.
