Description

The Wisconsin State Senate Democratic Caucus (SSDC) is the progressive political organization that supports the election and re-election of Democrats in the Wisconsin State Senate. The SSDC is the political arm of the Wisconsin Senate Democrats. It is overseen by Democratic Minority Leader Dianne Hesselbein for the 2026 cycle.

Position Title: Communications and Digital Associate

Term: Limited term, through November 2026

Communications and Digital Associate overview:

The Wisconsin State Senate Democratic Committee (SSDC) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Communications and Digital Associate to support our communications team in amplifying the voices of Democratic state senators and our candidates. The ideal candidate will assist in crafting compelling messages, managing media outreach, and engaging with stakeholders to advance the SSDC’s mission.

Communications and Digital Associate responsibilities:

  • Assist in drafting press releases, op-eds, social media content, talking, background documents, and other communications materials.

  • Monitor media coverage of Democratic senators.

  • Support social media management, including content creation, scheduling, and analytics tracking on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube.

  • Coordinate with team members to prepare for events and press conferences.

  • Conduct research on policy issues, political developments, and media trends relevant to Democratic senators.

  • Help maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and external partners.

  • Provide administrative support, such as managing email correspondence, updating contact databases, and organizing communications files.

  • Other responsibilities as required.

Communications and Digital Associate desired skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, Public Relations, or a related field.

  • 1-2 years of experience in communications, public relations, digital media / design, office of an elected official, or a political campaign/organization (internships count toward experience).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent attention to detail and proofreading abilities.

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Canva, Google Analytics, CapCut).

  • Knowledge of the current political landscape, democratic principles, and issues facing state legislators.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to edit videos/graphics.

  • Passion for advancing Democratic values and a commitment to the SSDC’s mission.

  • Experience in a political or advocacy organization preferred.

  • Understanding of media relations and pitching stories to journalists preferred.

  • Ability to thrive under tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously preferred.

Communications and Digital Associate compensation:

  • $5,000 - $6,000 monthly salary, dependent on experience
