JOB DESCRIPTION

Square One is seeking a National Political Director to lead our national candidate support program. This role will work directly with Square One’s leadership to execute our mission of providing high-impact, hands-on support to the most promising Democratic candidates running for the US House and Senate.

You’ll be in close touch with key campaigns around the country, providing expert advice and strategy to help them win on election day. You bring heart, vision and experience to the work, with a proven commitment to Democratic causes and to uplifting the next generation of breakthrough leaders. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in Democratic campaigns, electoral politics or related work — with an eye towards long-term change for the Democratic party.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement our candidate support program, overseeing program elements including:

  • Identifying key districts and states

  • Recruiting, sourcing and interviewing candidates for potential endorsement

  • Building strong relationships with candidates and campaign staff

  • Providing ongoing, high-impact, hands-on campaign support by advising campaigns on a variety of possible needs, including areas like: staffing, fundraising, budgeting, endorsements, field, GOTV, data, messaging, tech, and beyond

  • Lead and develop programming for first-time candidate fellowship series

  • Steer organizational priorities such as identifying new candidates and districts, and prioritize organizational resource allocation

  • Build strong relationships with key partners (PACs, national and state parties, elected officials and other stakeholders) at the local, state, and national level

  • Work closely with other members of the Square One team (fundraising, communications, etc) to ensure organization is aligned and up-to-date on our candidates’ needs

  • Plan and execute self-directed projects that support our mission, including educational campaign materials and guides for candidates up and down the ballot, reports, memos and other external facing communications

  • Support drafting of Square One’s newsletters highlighting political work and candidates

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in politics, campaigning and/or related non-profit work, with senior-level campaign experience preferred

  • A strong commitment to uplifting diverse Democratic candidates and leaders, with a willingness to think outside-the-box to help reshape the way Democratic candidates are recruited and elected

  • A broad understanding of how Democratic electoral politics, the party, elected leaders, aligned groups, and funding mechanisms work to create our current political ecosystem

  • An action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to your work

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
