JOB DESCRIPTION

Devon Lawson, an 18-year-old first-generation college student, restaurant manager, and founder/chair of Springfield Climate & Resilience Watch (SCRW), is running for the At Large 2 Director position on the Upper Willamette Soil and Water Conservation District (UWSWCD) Board in Lane County, Oregon. Recognized as the Best Emerging Democratic Leader in Springfield for 2025, Devon is a passionate advocate for climate resilience, equitable water resource management, and sustainable agriculture. He's challenging incumbent Karl Morgenstern, a long-time watershed expert and current board member with deep roots in local conservation efforts. This 2026 election campaign aims to win 65% of the vote and significantly boost voter turnout in this non-partisan race by mobilizing communities around soil and water conservation, wildfire recovery, and environmental justice. Join a dynamic, youth-led effort to bring fresh perspectives to local governance!

We are seeking a dedicated Campaign Manager to lead Devon Lawson's bid for UWSWCD At Large 2 Director. This role is full-time or part-time (flexible based on your availability) and will oversee the entire operation from now through the November 2026 election. The ideal candidate is organized, strategic, and passionate about conservation issues, with experience in local or grassroots campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire campaign operation, including developing and executing a comprehensive strategy to achieve 65% vote share and increase voter turnout.

  • Coordinate team members, volunteers, and consultants; set timelines and milestones for key activities like voter outreach, fundraising, and events.

  • Track progress using data and metrics, adjusting tactics as needed to meet goals.

  • Build relationships for endorsements from organizations like the Oregon League of Conservation Voters, local environmental groups, farmers' associations, and community leaders.

  • Manage day-to-day operations, including compliance with Oregon election laws (e.g., ORESTAR filings) and coordination with the treasurer.

  • Collaborate on communications, digital outreach, and field efforts to engage Lane County's diverse voters, focusing on rural, urban, and underserved communities.

  • Ensure the campaign reflects Devon's values of equity, sustainability, and community-driven conservation.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Proven experience in campaign management, preferably in local elections, environmental advocacy, or progressive politics (1-3+ years preferred).

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of Oregon election processes, voter data tools (e.g., VAN), and conservation issues like soil erosion, water quality, and climate adaptation.

  • Excellent communication skills for strategy development, team coordination, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; experience working with young leaders or in community organizing is a plus.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in political science, environmental studies, or related field preferred but not required.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings/weekends during peak periods.

This is an opportunity to make a tangible impact on local environmental policy in one of Oregon's key conservation districts.

This role is hybrid/remote-friendly, with a strong preference for candidates based in or near Lane County, Oregon, to facilitate in-person activities like canvassing, events, and meetings in the Eugene-Springfield area. No dedicated office space; work from home or co-working spaces as needed.
