JOB DESCRIPTION
Devon Lawson, an 18-year-old first-generation college student, restaurant manager, and founder/chair of Springfield Climate & Resilience Watch (SCRW), is running for the At Large 2 Director position on the Upper Willamette Soil and Water Conservation District (UWSWCD) Board in Lane County, Oregon. Recognized as the Best Emerging Democratic Leader in Springfield for 2025, Devon is a passionate advocate for climate resilience, equitable water resource management, and sustainable agriculture. He's challenging incumbent Karl Morgenstern, a long-time watershed expert and current board member with deep roots in local conservation efforts. This 2026 election campaign aims to win 65% of the vote and significantly boost voter turnout in this non-partisan race by mobilizing communities around soil and water conservation, wildfire recovery, and environmental justice. Join a dynamic, youth-led effort to bring fresh perspectives to local governance!
We are seeking a skilled Digital Director to lead online presence and advertising for Devon Lawson's UWSWCD campaign. This contract role (flexible, approximately 15-25 hours/week) will build and manage digital tools to reach voters cost-effectively, especially younger, urban, and environmentally focused demographics in a large district. The ideal candidate has experience in digital strategy for political or advocacy campaigns and is excited about using online platforms to drive conservation messaging.
Key Responsibilities
-
Run social media channels (e.g., Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram) for local reach, creating content on issues like water conservation and climate equity to engage followers.
-
Manage targeted online ads (e.g., via Google Ads, Facebook/Meta, or YouTube) aimed at enviro-interested demographics, optimizing for younger or urban voters in Lane County.
-
Analyze digital performance metrics (e.g., using Google Analytics, social insights) to track engagement, adjust strategies, and support turnout goals.
-
Collaborate with the communications and field teams to integrate digital efforts with overall campaign tactics, ensuring consistent messaging.
-
Develop email campaigns or newsletters (e.g., via Mailchimp) for supporter updates and mobilization.
-
Ensure all digital activities comply with election laws and best practices for accessibility and inclusivity.
Requirements and Qualifications
-
2+ years of experience in digital marketing or management for political campaigns, nonprofits, or advocacy groups.
-
Proficiency in social media platforms and ad tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Google Ads).
-
Strong skills in content creation, SEO, analytics, and audience targeting for progressive causes.
-
Knowledge of digital trends in elections, especially for local races and environmental audiences.
-
Ability to work independently with creative problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.
-
Commitment to equity, sustainability, and youth empowerment; experience in grassroots digital organizing is a plus.
-
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related field preferred, but equivalent experience accepted.
This role is key to amplifying our message digitally and boosting voter participation in conservation efforts.
This role is fully remote-friendly, with a preference for candidates based in or near Lane County, Oregon, for easier coordination on local content and events in the Eugene-Springfield area. No dedicated office space; work from home or co-working spaces as needed.
