About Us

American Families for Vaccines (AFV) is a fast-growing, mission-driven organization mobilizing local communities to support pro-vaccine policy and defeat anti-vaccine extremism. Our 11 state-based Families for Vaccines chapters defend strong vaccine policy, fight misinformation, and advocate for evidence-based public health. We are expanding our national 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) infrastructure and increasing the number of state-based Families for Vaccines chapters to 15 in 2026.

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Policy Analyst to join our policy and advocacy team. This role will be central to monitoring, analyzing, and responding to state-level legislation related to vaccines and immunization policy across all 50 states. The Policy Analyst will assist in tracking legislative trends, composing policy briefs, and supporting the advocacy strategies that protect and advance vaccine access and evidence-based policies nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Legislative Monitoring & Analysis

  • Track proposed and enacted legislation in all 50 states related to vaccines, immunization requirements, exemptions, funding, misinformation, and related topics.

  • Conduct in-depth policy analysis to assess the potential impact of proposed legislation for priority bills.

  • Maintain and update a legislative tracking database.

  • Policy Research & Writing

  • Assist in drafting talking points, fact sheets, position statements, and memos for internal and external audiences.

  • Help writing policy briefs as needed.

  • Summarize complex legislation into accessible language for advocacy and public education.

  • Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support advocacy campaigns in priority states by providing background research, talking points, and real-time legislative updates.

  • Represent the organization in coalition calls and stakeholder meetings as needed.

  • Strategic Support & Reporting

  • Help to identify legislative trends and emerging threats or opportunities in vaccine policy across states.

  • Contribute to strategy development for state and national advocacy priorities.

  • Assist with data collection and impact reporting for funders and board members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Public Health, Political Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).

  • 2+ years of experience in policy analysis, legislative tracking, or public health advocacy (nonprofit or government experience a plus).

  • Demonstrated understanding of vaccine policy, immunization programs, or public health law.

  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information quickly.

  • Experience with legislative tracking tools such as BillTrack50, Quorum, etc., or comfort learning them.

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders across the political spectrum.

  • Passion for public health, science, and vaccine advocacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with U.S. state legislative processes.

  • Experience working on controversial or politicized health topics.

  • Prior involvement in coalition-based or grassroots advocacy work.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $55,000 annually

Pay Transparency
