The Sommer for State Committee campaign is excited to bring on volunteer interns who want to be part of an energetic, grassroots political movement based in downtown Manhattan. Our district includes Greenwich Village, West Village, SoHo/NoHo, Hudson Square, Tribeca, and surrounding neighborhoods. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in local politics, community organizing, and voter engagement.
If you’re enthusiastic, community-minded, and eager to make a difference, we’d love to have you on our team.
All interns will receive a letter of recommendation upon completion of at least one month with the campaign, along with valuable experience in grassroots campaigning and public service.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Support campaign events and initiatives, such as our ongoing district-wide food drive in response to SNAP cuts.
-
Assist with grassroots organizing efforts, including canvassing, phone banking, tabling, and distributing campaign materials.
-
Create campaign materials, including social media posts, and campaign flyers, to help spread the message of the campaign (optional and based on interest).
-
Research local issues that come up in conversations with voters or at events (optional and based on interest).
Requirements:
-
Attend weekly in-person campaign sessions for 2–4 hours on Saturdays in downtown Manhattan to support voter outreach and community engagement, including assisting with the ongoing district-wide food drive.
-
Demonstrate strong communication skills, and maintain a friendly, professional approach to engaging with voters and community members.
-
Be flexible and proactive, taking on a variety of tasks as the campaign evolves.
