JOB DESCRIPTION

Friends of Sherrod Brown is seeking a driven and passionate ** Deputy Communications Director** to join our team. This role is a great opportunity to gain experience honing and executing on communications strategy, help manage a talented team, and experience working with the national and Ohio press corps.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside the communications director to hone and execute communications strategy and across departments to execute on events and projects

• Work with the wider communications team to implement communications strategy, overseeing day-to-day operations

• Build and maintain relationships with the Ohio press corps and select national press

• Pitch Sherrod Brown for press in-state, nationally, and for cable TV

• Draft communications materials including press releases, op-eds, and and talking points for Sherrod Brown and high-level surrogates

• Staff Sherrod Brown for interviews and select campaign events

• Serve as an on the record spokesperson for the campaign

• Other responsibilities as needed

Qualifications

• 2 cycles of campaign communications experience, or a relevant equivalent

• On the record experience with reporters

• Strong ability to write and edit materials on a tight deadline

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Attention to detail, an ability to work under tight deadlines, and strong project management skills

• A positive attitude and a willingness to learn new things
